Shifter moving out of park while car is off

Is anyone able to reproduce this very surprising issue with their Tacoma?

With a very simple trick, I can move my shifter from the Park position to any other gear position while the engine is fully off, keys removed. I don't even have to apply the brakes while doing it.

The trick: While moving the shifter, do not try to move it in the normal pace that you would normally. Instead, move it out of Park in the slowest motion that you possibly can.

My Tacoma is a 2013 base model 4-cyl automatic transmission extended cab.

I'm very curious to know if it's specific to my vehicle or if other owners are seeing the same thing.

SAFETY CAUTION: IF YOU PLAN TO TEST THIS ON YOUR TRUCK:
    1. BEFORE YOU TRY IT, PLEASE APPLY YOUR EMERGENCY BRAKES TO AVOID ROLLING.
    2. DO NOT ATTEMPT IT ON A HILL, OR WITH ANYONE IN FRONT OR BEHIND YOUR VEHICLE
    3. DO NOT TRY TO SHIFT FROM THE PARK POSITION WHILE STANDING OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AS YOU COULD GET KNOCKED DOWN

I plan to take my truck in to see what the service department says.

Mine does it. I pay no attention to it as to years of ownership entail me putting my foot on the brake before I hit the shifter.

Seems odd to me the solenoid should prevent this no matter how slow you move it. Now I'll have to check damn it.

My opinion is yours is not working correctly OP.

    Just weighing in...

'15 Sport...couldn't get it to do it no matter how slow I pushed it over...wouldn't go far enough to the right to move backwards into reverse.

I have this issue too. I started a thread on it a few days ago and got a reply from someone with some wiring diagrams and pin outs to check but I didn't have a chance to dig into it yet.

Checked mine and it doesn't do it either, no matter how slow I go.

Either the shift lock solenoid is broken or out of alignment. When it is deenergized it should be locked to prevent from shifting out of Park.

    http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old...toyewd/06toypdf/ewd/2006/tacoma/h/em01d32.pdf

The only time you should be able to shift out of park is when the solenoid is powered. OR When the override button is pressed. Which is another possibility. Check that button under the cover by the shifter it could be stuck in.

It doesn't matter. Shift Lock is the same. Shift lock is external to the transmission.

Mine is also a 4 speed four cylinder 2.7 liter access cab prerunner.

Probably needs a shifter assembly. Either buy one or take yours apart and try to fix it.

    Also, welcome!
