If he's in Laramie, then he's my primary care physician. Don't need him much, but I like his style.

You can do this all online if you want like License2Ill mentioned (find the part numbers, google for prices and then have them shipped to you) or just walk into a Toyota dealer (they will run your VIN and give you exactly what you need). If your broke down on the side of the highway or something just walk into a dealer and get what you need. I have found it helpful to know what the online prices are when walking into a local dealer. Some things are basically the same price others are jacked up crazily...

When you get all the parts then clean all that shit off and reinstall with new white grease. Should look like this:

Currygoat - any way you recommend cleaning it off? I'll try a dealer tomorrow. There's no toyota dealer near me - will other dealers work?

Just use a rag and try not to let stuff fall into the hole. Everything should be nice and clean prior to reinstalling with white grease. Here are the full instructions for replacement:

    http://www.instructables.com/id/Toyota-Tacoma-manual-transmission-pop-out-of-gear/

If there are no dealers near you will have to order them online (there are lots of online wholesale Toyota parts dealers). Just be sure you are ordering the correct parts. You can call them first prior to ordering them. They will confirm it. Good luck!

I'd also drain and refill the Tranny in hopes you can dig out those missing metal bits.

Okay, I got the parts to replace everything on the shifter stick. However, I can't get any of the old parts off of the stick. Does the top twist off of the bottom? I can't get it off and toyota can't figure it out either.

The shift knob twists off counter clockwise. The rubber ball deal might need to heated with a torch to get off.

Hey just in the middle of this and realized that I don't have general grease. Can I use caliper grease? Or how about prelube for the body bushings?

@josephhaeberle can you tell me how you got the old parts off and new ones on? Does the top and bottom of the shift lever come apart?

Looks like OP hasn’t been back on here since 2017. Same time this thread was posted. Hope you get the help you’re looking for!

Do you happen to know how to replace the boot, retainer, and spring on the shift lever? It looks like top and bottom of lever are separate prices but I cannot figure out how to get them apart.
