Arrow is pointing to the the shift bushing (it’s like a faint blue, not easily visible in the photo). This is the part we replaced just for kicks even though it was in good condition. Also changed that plastic cover that goes on the ball of the shifter (blurry part of the photo, middle right)

If a shift fork roll pin is is broken and the shift rail is in an engaged position it is interlocked to the other rails. There is a series of small balls and interlock pins that keep the other rails from moving if one of them is selected. So if the roll pin is broken and the rail is selected you have a situation that effectively locks up the entire shifting arrangement. Theres is no possible way to fix it externally the trans has to come out and be dismantled. The good part your parts count will be low. None of the pictures show it but on the steel carrier part there are 3 bolts, behind them are springs and interlock balls.

Are you talking about the ones you can access from the side of the transmission? @mechanicjon and I were talking about it earlier in messages

He also sent a quick diagram. The difficulty is actually seeing them, you’d have to use a mirror because there are other parts in the way. And getting any kind of tool in there without lowering the trans seems near impossible but maybe someone has done it

It’s cheaper to just find a used trans and put it in I think.

Yes but without getting the rods out it will do you no good to remove the plugs. Here is the deal you have got to be able to move the rods and replace the roll pin it is possible to fix the problem with nothing other than moving the rod and replacing the pin but this is transmission on the bench fix. Yes you can move the rods but it does not fix the broken pin and it will happen all over again.

That is mostly correct they are the detents but in between the rods is a double "ball" it has rounded ends both ends with no spring.

My great artist drawing was depicting what he might see if he pulled the plugs and a shift rod was stuck in between. Due to a shifter tha is jump out of the shift gate. Or bronken pin at the fork. Either way the trans needs to come out and be tore down.
Just was trying to help confirm the problem.

Has anybody bought a rebuilt transmission from Marlin Crawler? They’re saying they do a great job and can stand up to the abuse of rock crawling and Baja racing. Just weighing my options.

Or I can buy a less than 100k used functioning trans or have mine rebuilt locally which seems like the best option since the shop can do a free inspection of the one I have currently.. which if the damage seems real rough, I can get a rebuilt one from Marlin.

Marlin does exceptional work on the rebuilds. When I was into the mini trucks, those were all I ran. Never any issues.

Good luck with the fix, however you do it.

Picked up a used trans minus the bell housing and clutch plate (I'll just pull housing from mine and probably pick up a new clutch plate). 80k miles on it.... not bad, got real blessed.

Talk about unusual, geez luiz. Anybody have this happen before? Bolt broke from its location as my AAA guy was pulling up the truck onto his flatbed.

    Oof!!

They've been known to get fatigued and break. Especially if they have worked loose. Big tires is another thing.
