I don't know how I read the message, liked it, even responded to it..... but failed to buy the OEM's.. I think I got startled by the price and just forgot. Or it was just late last night and couldn't exactly remember what I needed to do. Anyway, I gotta call my guy tomorrow and see what progress he's made. Maybe we'll just get some OEM bolts and keep the old ball joints. But I reckon that they're pretty old, maybe I'll just get the OEM's for those also. Money's gettin a little tight but thankfully I got called out for work tomorrow

Quick update, my truck is up and runnin’ since Monday. 80k transmission has been installed and it is working just fine. There was not any metal chunks in the oil when he was draining it so what actually broke remains a mystery :notsure: but I’m so glad this is finally off my checklist. What we do know is that it was definitely something in the transmission so... if anyone experiences something similar to what happened with my truck, well, yea.. this is available as a possibility.

Thanks again to everyone who helped and chimed in, especially those who went out of their way with private messaging and even illustrations. If anyone in the future wants specifics pertaining any of this, feel free to message me.

Oh yea, but not yet! Trucks at home and I’m out of town for work. Once I get the broken spindle bolt situation sorted out, I’ll be real excited to be “flying” down the road again.

    :turtleride: Snail speeds for now

What if the gears will go in when engines off but don’t when engines running what then?

That sounds like a clutch the blew up or a pilot bearing that is not free spinning.

Does the grinding happen with clutch out or in?

Clutch out and on the roll
For me that happened in 2nd 3rd 4th 5th gear at around 2200 rpm and again at 3k on those times I needed to get onto the freeway quickly
Transmission shop I had it looked at diagnosed it as a simple exhaust hangar or something like that rapping on the frame, in other words they had no clue what was going on

Did the noise go away after the shop looked at it?

No!, they were NOT successful in reproducing this odd noise on their 'test-drive' around the block after truck sat in the lot for half the day
i clearly explained what was happening and when it was happening and even Where i first noticed it climbing the hills in northern Arkansas
it was a 95$ diag very well spent :( for that diagnosis from an expert large-chain transmission shop
they also told me the Clutch was working Just Fine... which it was, no shifting issues or slippage, just a grind at that particular RPM range
things did get worse as time went by (about 7 months) especially downshifting into 2nd to make turns which was also undiagnosable
