I feel REALLY stupid asking this question, since I've owned this truck for 4 years... In my defense, I rarely have a need for 4Lo, but I did recently. I've had it in 4Lo in the past, but I had trouble this last time.

I was in 4Hi and tried to go to 4Lo but never could get it to go. I just got the alarm beeping... I tried every combination I could think of. I have a 6 spd, so I tried 1st gear clutch in, neutral clutch out, neutral clutch in, tried driving forward and backwards, everything. And it wouldn't go in 4Lo.

Later, at home, I tried it again, and it worked fine if I went from 2wd straight to 4Lo. But still no luck on 4Hi to 4 Lo.

I can live with it like that, if that's the way it's supposed to be. But if something is wrong, or if I'm just shifting it wrong, I'd like to know.

    Thanks!

How about reading your owners manual?

Or the little thingy in the drivers visor. With mine which is a 5 speed 4 banger I have had the best luck getting into 4 lo by rolling forward at like 3 mph while shifting from 4H to 4L.

Now the real problem with this is it only has five miles on the odometer. I think what they did is put 3 gallons in so the light isn't on. Then the first thing they did with the truck was to make this video.

Have you tried holding the clutch to the floor for a while before you select 4 low . Sometimes , even though you are in neutral , it takes a while for the transmission output shaft to stop turning . If the transmission output shaft is slowly turning , you can bet the input shaft on the transfer case is still turning making it difficult for the transfer case to grab 4 low . Just for giggles , try turning the truck off , select 4 low with the ignition on and then start the truck to see if it goes into 4 low . Doing this would give the spinning shafts a chance to stop completely making it easier for the transfer case to grab that very low gear .Give it a shot and report back

If you have aftermarket floor mats take them out and try it the pedal really has to be all the way to the floor. Also try creeping forward just a bit. Despite what others may tell you read the owners manual about using 4 wheel drive once a month it helps lube all the parts inside of the transfer case it does not spin in normal driving and the gear sets get dry.

Mine always beeps in low, seems to work fine. Only use it to pull out my boat. Thought it did that to alert you it's in low?

If it's beeping it's not working. You have to be at a full stop for 4L to lock in and not beep.

For me it took some getting used to coming from an 02 that still had the good old stick for 4lo. But now what has worked for me when going from 4 hi to 4 lo is; roll to a stop completely preferably in a straight line, put in the clutch, put it in neutral, wait for a moment or two, the turn that stupid dial.

If it doesn't work the first time I usually just put it back into 2wd and go directly into 4 lo. Seems like after it hasn't worked one time it gets bound up.

    1.) Get the procedure right

2.) If it still doesn't work your ADD might be acting up. There is a good thread about it.

LMAO.. I thought the same thing the first day I got my truck and got stuck in a muddy farm field. That mistake cost me a $200 tractor tow out of the guys farm. I learned the hard way how to properly engage the 4lo and locker.

Now to figure out why the rear locker is ALWAYS a pain in the ass to engage and disengage. Multiple pressing the button and lurching forward and backward. I've used it probably 20 times so far.
