97 reg cab 5spd 199000k. I bought it with 150K. Awhile back I had the clutch hydraulics go out on me on a short trip. Wouldn't go into gear unless I pumped the clutch. Got it home, couldn't find a leak but noticed my MC reservoir was low so I replaced the MC and slave with OEM (Aisin) parts. It now operates as it did before, however it is extremely easy to pull the truck out've gear (even under a load) and while the truck is off you can row through all gears without the use of the clutch. This was not the case before. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it, if not I guess l'll just live with it.

Sadly, it sounds like the tranny mechanism is just worn out. She's got a lot of miles on her and the springs which hold it in gear and give you the tight feel need to be replaced.

All though the springs could be contributing it should not be able to row through the gears the the clutch engaged because the gears usually don't line up like that. I would make sure the clutch is fully engaging because the new parts could not be adjusted properly. Drive the truck around the block and see if you can row through the gears without the clutch again, also try to get the clutch to slip so you can rule that out for sure. Just my thoughts on the issue

As mentioned above , make sure your clutch is adjusted properly .
Here is a complete repair manual for your truck that I suggest downloading before it disappears .The manual shows how to adjust the clutch .
    http://web.archive.org/web/20101127014333/http://ncttora.com/fsm/1996/96_repair_searchable.pdf

When the truck is shut off , nothing inside the transmission is turning making it very easy for the synchronizers to select all the gear ranges . This is normal .

Shifting under load without the clutch can destroy a synchromesh transmission rather quickly . I dont beleive I have ever heard of someone trying to shift a manual transmission while continuing to accelerate . Now if you mean shifting without the clutch while your foot is off the accelerator, it has been done in the past but not a good idea with the style of synchronizer you have in this transmission .

Here is an example of what can happen when shifting without the clutch $$$$$$$
Should you shift without the clutch ? http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...ion-issue.html

I used that manual to adjust my clutch pedal after I installed the new master/slave. 7inches from the floor, .5 free play.

Perhaps the title to this thread is a little misleading. What I actually meant was "Truck shifts gears without clutch while not running, it didn't used to do this..." If my truck was in gear I had to depress the clutch to get it out've gear, that is not the case now.

Ive never had issues changing gears on a dead truck, as long as its not on a hill.

its pretty common esp in bikes.. http://www.gravesport.com/Dynojet-Quickshifter-Sensor.html although its cutting fuel for such a small time its not the same as letting off the throttle imho

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I wouldn't recommend it, it will ruin your synchros in a hurry doing that. Unless you have a transmission that is designed for it like a semi tractor-trailer, I wouldn't do it.

OK well we've all established that shifting gears while the truck is running is a bad thing (should be common knowledge). To be clear I have never or would never attempt this unless the truck is not running. Moving on I think something is up with my slave pushrod. It seems to be somewhat extended ( I can see part of pushrod sticking outve the boot) when resting so I'll continue on my quest.
