Varying opinions expressed as fact. I get you - I’ve done this many times. When you have intermittent clear and isolated highway that can change to icy that’s a good reason to be in 4WD. These are tough systems and a bit of highway is not going to hurt them. It may be expensive to fix a transfer case - it it’ll be MUCH less than the cost of replacing your rolled truck due to NOT being in 4WD and hitting ice and needing it. And here come the comments from those who claim 4WD doesn’t help on ice- rubbish. Really wish they had MTS in 4H like 4Runner

Besides using 4WD, this is my first vehicle with VSC (vehicle stability control). I went to a vacant, icy, snow covered parking lot when I first got the truck and experimented with it. Was quite impressed with the results. The engine power being cut was a very odd sensation at first, but I understand it now after 3 years of ownership.

I turned the dial to 4H today while in 4th gear(MT), part throttle at around 35-40MPH with no issues. I have in the past switched to 4H at a stop. On occasion, you would need to get the truck moving forward for it to fully engage (from blinking to solid).

VSC is no joke. It reacts faster than I can and can apply individual brakes unlike I can. I leave it on during icey hiway speed rush hour travels, but turn it off during more relaxing city street driving because it robs me of fun and practice.

If you're at the front and not in 4x4 ready to go you should lose your Canadian citizenship and get sent to florida. I cant stand seeing 90k trucks step out because they are too proud to use 4x4.
