Hello I just bought my 2018 in October. I loved the truck and it ran beautifully until yesterday. I noticed it is not shifting properly. It acts like its shifting too late sometimes in 3rd gear. Has anyone experienced this problem? I only have 3000 miles on the truck

The 3rd gen's transmission is notorious for being bad at finding gears. I'd link you another thread that talks about this, but I can't find it at the moment. Hopefully someone else has a link

So does the dealership have a fix for this problem?

Besides the latest tsb updates, no. The only true fix is the OVTune

This may sound stupid but what is the OV Tune? I don't want them to screw me over because I'm a girl. I want to know what I'm talking about when I go there..lol

OV Tune is an aftermarket 3rd party product. It addresses and fixes the issues that plague the transmission because of bad software programming by Toyota with new software. (https://www.ovtuned.com/)

If you want to just take it back to the dealer ask for TSB-0062-18, print out the PDF file, read it, understand it, and tell the dealer you are experiencing the symptoms and ask they perform the TSB on your vehicle.

Mine shifted kinda weird at first, at 1.600 miles it seems to be getting better.

Press the ECT button, and it should take off like a scalded dog.

Oh boy... Just so you know at this point it's become kind of a running joke around here that anytime a new person joins the forums and asks about the shifting issues everyone kind of acts like we don't know what you're talking about because it's not just already a THING, it's THE THING. There are probably over 10,000 threads on these forums about the transmission shifting like crap.

In a nutshell, you have 4 options:

    1) Live with it
    2) Print out TSB-0062-18 and bring it to the dealer to have them update the truck with it (didn't make a difference for me, some swear by it, others say it was good at first and then went back)
    3) ShiftSensePro ($160 product you plug into the car and tuck under the dash, quite an improvement in my opinion, I recently got one)
    4) OVTune. (Pricey at about $700 but definitely the way to go. According to just about everyone this fixes it 99%-and you can easily do it yourself)

Yet another option. Try driving in s5 all the time. It works for me. Good luck!

    I have a 2018, Extended cab, 4cyl, 2wheel. @ 5300 miles'

service being done at Butler Toyota Indianapolis

Yes my hard shift is (or would appear to be as there are no indicator lights), from 1st to 2nd. Dealer had to involve Toyota factory service, as replacing CPU did not fix issue. Ultimately they had to replace a bad ABS unit they said was causing the hard shift from 1-2nd and the hard down shift in the same spot. My problem began around 3500 miles, seems worse in cold conditions and not as bad after it warms up. Also said that the false breaking issue I had one time involved the sensor in the badge and the acting up ABS unit (but that one seems like a long shot to me). Just got my truck back after the dealer having it for almost a week. Will have to drive it a few days to see if the problem is really resolved.

During this same time my driving highway miles (same journey) dropped from 26 - 23mpg, not sure if this is related but seems like a lot of miles to loose from a little loss of tire pressure.

@kahanabob ECT on or off did not seem to make any difference for my issue.

No we eventually figured out that the guy who said he fixed it with black magic was lying.

I know you're talking about selling the truck :)

Maybe you, or the gas station you got to got a hold of some bad fuel??

Just the same, I would recommend you try another top tier brand name dealer gas station.
Even brand named dealers are suspect now a days, especially if they’re priced way lower than the rest (of their same dealer) peers. Ask me how I know.

Also at startup, turn on ECT and shift to S4-S5 mode (around town or combined driving respectably) for the ultimate driving experience

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

    P.S.
Bad or inadequate fuel can cause a reduction in combustion/power that may cause ecm to adjust timing/shifting
