Mine had the same symptom when it was new. Noticed it more when it was cold. My tranny fluid came from the factory a quart low and I had Toyota do the TSB on transmission software for the 2016s. Not sure what cured it, but it does not do it any more. Try to get a video of the RPM rev, in case you can not make it happen for the tech when you take it in.

Mine does it also 2019 tacoma off road automatic transmission coasting to a stop light at times and goes green and I'm not completely stopped i press the gas to keep moving it revs a few hundred rpms quick and jerks into gear also rolling slow down a alley or slight hill other wise its fine shifts great through all the gears doesn't happen all the time but when it does I get annoyed with it! I've had a transmission flush and told then to check the fluid they said it was normal level not low so I dunno unless it gets confused at times it being a artificial intelligence computer trying to figure out what ima do next

Same here. Like a dead spot in pedal when coasting at low speed. Worse when making a turn rolling downhill.

Always have to check and make sure I didn’t just run over a flock of geese crossing the road…

Happens to me in the same spot every day coming home from work in traffic. I’ll be coasting about 15-25 mph and it’ll have a complete stutter attack at least 3 times on my way home

I'm glad you guys revived this thread, this is the most relatable comment I've read in a while. My 2023 acts so weird and don't want to be that guy at the dealer. Before the truck I drove RAM high roof van 2500 (6 cylinders). I knew this would be different but feels very strange. In my van (automatic) I would manually downshift on hills. When I did it a bit too early I would experience the same jerk. The tacoma feels like its shifting at the wrong time, all the time. There are several spots in my daily commute I can replicate the issue you're describing.

I can't recall if my sr5 ever did that when new, but I can tell you it's a very normal running truck now. I don't think you can make it shift any better, or more precise.
