Is this your 1st Toyota and/or Tacoma? You'd only know that this 3rd gen transmission is garbage if you answered yes because we're comparing it to the previous generation Tacoma, or hell, any generation Toyota for that matter

If I'm still having an issue with my Tacoma hanging in fourth/fifth with Shift Sense Pro (Program 2) installed, what could this be caused by? Transmission fluid?

Does it hang after coolant has come up to temp?

Yes sir. It happens generally on the highway where the truck seems to be revving high for the speed (twitchy throttle) and won't kick down.

When this happens, try lifting slightly on the throttle. This will signal to the SSP to upshift. From what I was told by the OP, this is by design so that you can keep/hold 4th to continue accelerating or lift slightly to indicate to SSP that you are going to hold speed and cruise. Took some time to get used to.

FWIW, this is not as noticeable in program #1.

I have had a plenty of vehicles, and I have never hated a transmission before this. A 3-speed-auto would be better than this.

Nothing that I would say is more noticeable than the fact at hand! Is there something else I should be looking at? My thought was Transmission Fluid, but I don't know if this actually could be linked?

    Will try Program #1.

I mentioned all that other stuff because you made it sound like it was happening prior to installing the SSP.

In 11,000 miles, I've had upshift hang in 4th on the highway several times using SSP; could not modulate it out with the gas.

I've also noticed, if I switch from SSP S-mode to D and back to SSP S-mode, it won't upshift out of 4th; again, no matter how I modulate the gas.

I just chalked it up to the stock S-mode shift pattern overriding the SSP. Then again, I never noticed it do that in S-mode the 10,000 miles prior to using SSP. I've pretty much avoided D from day one.

This is exactly what I'm seeing. The difference that I see it quite regularly where the upshift just won't. Even if I shift into "D" and back to SSP it would continue to hang.

SSP does not engage above 60 mph for safety reasons. So if you’re switching to D and back to S going above 60mph, you’ll be in S4 mode, with SSP off.

    I wasn't above 60 mph...and the safety is 65 mph.

Agree. Or even the old two speed Powerglide.

I got heartburn every time I looked at the Tacoma ONLY because of the transmission. The SSP has certainly helped. I keep reading about the OV Tune and am seriously considering investing in that. I want the constant shifting to stop at highway speeds and to be able to use the cruise control. Too many hills in eastern Oklahoma and now WIND. We are to have sustained winds of over 30 mph and gusts up to 60 mph today.

We were going to Tulsa yesterday in the CR V on the turnpike. I had the cruise set at 83. (I can actually use it in this car). Changed lanes to pass with nothing in the rear view mirrors. Then bam, there was a third gen Tacoma so close I couldn’t see his bumper. I sped up and moved out of his way as soon as possible because I know he didn’t want that damn transmission to gear down.

My ssp makes this crazy electronic squicky noise when I first start the truck up. Is this normal?
