Thanks JRH_Tacoma, I found a used intake locally and I was considering it until I found out that he wants $350. Yikes seems steep for something that doesn't add any significant gains.

To those who use the SSP, "how do you use it?" Do you automatically after starting the truck shift into the SSP mode and leave it there or do you start using the D mode and use the SSP as needed?

Yes it’s like muscle memory now, every time I turn on the truck I shift into S mode.

As long as you are less than 65mph you shift into s or sport mode and you hear a beep, 1-3 beeps which tells you what mode you are in and wala! If you try to shift it will cancel the SSPro so put it in s mode and leave it.

Selling my SSP v2 for $145 shipped. Toyota is buying my truck back!!! I have it listed in the classifieds or PM me. Love this device - it made the truck significantly more livable.

I always put in Sport and use the device. It is waaay better than the stock mapping/lazy shift points.

Same here. Shifting to S is just natural now. One the rare occasion when it doesn't go into S I am quickly reminded to do so by the poor shifting.

And for those concerned about leaving it in during service, there really is no issue. There are many devices that use that port now. If needed, the service tech simply removes anything that is plugged into it to connect to the computer. I've left mine in every time I've taken it in for service and there was never any mention of it.

Can anyone comment on using the SSP and towing? Does it greatly improve, or minimal improvement?

I’m looking to do something to help with towing my travel trailer, the truck struggles to maintain speed without downshifting to 3rd which is 4000+ rpm.

I use it for towing all the time, works really well and prevents the truck from going into 6th at all and keeps it out of 5th unless conditions are right. Shifting up through gears is also better as it holds the gear a bit longer than stock depending on the setting your running the shift sense at.

Keeping the truck in S4 or S5 also prevents the truck from shifting into 5th or 6th. ECT Mode also holds gears longer, but does the SSP hold them better or something?

I find the shift sense holds gears better than ECT in the lower gears. Less hunting for gears.

Had mine for over few months now. Really like the thing, makes the truck more drivable. One thing I notice, is just how rarely I am in 6th gear. Without it, I was constantly in 6. I did tune down to the least aggressive setting because it held 3rd too long for my driving style. Mpg was 19.1 for my last trip, highway for a lot of it..65mph, then some back travel mountain roads, and a little off goading. Great product

Hey guys....I have several questions regarding my SS Pro.

    1. Do you have to reset it to your desired setting (1,2 or 3) after disconnecting the battery?

    2. I have my SS Pro in setting 3 (I think). However, when I shift into "S" mode, I hear only one beep. Shouldn't I hear three beeps?

    3. How do I verify which mode I am in (1,2 or 3)?

    4. I have a push button start. I press the start button one time to get into "Engine On." However, I cannot shift out of park. The truck will not let me. How do I program my SS Pro since I cannot get it to shift out of park?

    Thanks so much everyone!!!

I resold my SSP here last week and have been driving my Turd Gen until everything is finalized with Toyota USA. I have to tell you how much I miss that SSP already. I really have to say that if you are on the fence about getting this device -just get it!

I am constantly in Sport mode now trying to duplicate what the SSP does. It sucks without it!

You need to push the push button 2 times with out the brake pedal depressed to get to the engine on mode. Now you press the brake pedal and shift to S mode . Wait 10 seconds ! it will beep . shift up or down 1 time to listen for how many beeps you here and this will be what mode you are in . Now shift up or down 1 time to change it ( listen for how many beeps ) . Disconnecting the battery should have no affect on it staying in the preset mode.
    Hope this helps .

This helped a lot...thank you! Next question....when I first start the truck I hear only one beep. Is this normal or should I hear three beeps since I have my SS Pro in mode 3-Trailer mode?
