    Nice job explaining...

I'm guessing this is on the other side of "D+ECT" rather than between D and D+ECT otherwise there'd be no reason for it.

Disclaimer: I don't own this product but I did read this thread and glanced through the other thread referenced and I'm gonna take a stab at a few things I've seen. OP or other competent authorities feel free to correct me.

No, this is not going to lock you into 6th gear on the highway. The OP stated that this device is programmed for a shift to 6th somewhere around 77 mph, assuming you aren't still heavy on the throttle. With this product installed, you will almost never use 6th gear. I can guarantee your mpg will take a hit but the whole point of this thing seems to be to override Toyota's decision to prioritize mileage over performance, so no surprise there. If you aren't sure how you feel about virtually never using 6th, try driving on the highway in S-5 for awhile. Not a perfect demo but it seems to me that for normal highway cruising (60-70mph) the only difference between S-5 and this gadget is that the truck should be more willing to downshift to 4th with the ShiftSense installed.

I don't think so. In the development thread the OP called the ECT shift points sloppy and overly aggressive. I think the idea here is a new normal mode. Your normal Drive gear essentially becomes eco mode and ECT is still the fun button. It doesn't seem to be aimed at the Ricky Bobby crowd. I think this is for the guys that hate the way the truck will shift to 4th around 35 miles per hour if you aren't heavy on the gas trying to get on the highway. Then you're bogged down and have to mash the gas enough to catch 3rd Or the way you'll be cruising in 6th gear on the highway and the cruise control decides you need to shift to 5th to make it up a tiny hill, but then by the time it downshifts it has dropped another 2 mph and thinks that it now needs 4th gear to regain the whopping 3mph that you've lost from going over an overpass.

I am waiting to see some reviews on this but it certainly seems like it has potential to be awesome. I've messed with S-mode shifting very little in this truck so while I patiently await reviews I'm going to drive around a bit and mess with it myself, to include a few highway trips limited to 5th and see how I like it.

I understand why folks would ask questions, but the 'inventor' has given good explanation of the development process and design principles.

If I had one of the annoying 3rd Gen transmissions, I'd be instantly dropping the <$200 and 15minutes of install time. That's nothing when I have a $35k truck that can't make up it's mind and Toyota can't fix it. Many people around here drop that on a 'level lift' and 2x that on a 'pro grill', neither of which 'do' anything.

With it's ease of installation, I'd be removing anytime I went to the dealer. Just because they don't need to question it, regardless of why I was there. Shoot, I already pull off my trim rings, center caps and fancy valve caps when go to have tire work done. This thing would be faster than that.

@dcz108 , hoping everything works well for you! Maybe Toyota will come knocking and want to buy your map! :D

For those concerned about spending $175, just don't buy Starbucks for a month and you'll have enough money to pay for it. If you don't like it then think of how much time you saved from standing in line or waiting in the drive-thru. $175 is nothing for all the complaining that goes on about the shifting. It might just be the best $175 you ever spent.

@dcz108 Will the box potentially fit under the center console on the back of the cup holder plastic extrusions? No offense but it is absolutely monstrous and kinda ugly. Also- to prevent any dealer/warranty conflicts I plan on either removing or hiding the unit every single time I bring it in for service (and unplugging/hiding the obdII plug). Yes, yes, I know about Magnuson-Moss but not all dealers share your viewpoint and I'd rather just avoid the issue entirely.

Starbucks is shit coffee anyways.... the $175 isn't bad at all for quality of life changes to your truck, how well it works without any hiccups is the question and warranty issues of course.

But I love me my fraps bro..

All kidding aside. I will also remove the until every time I'll take it into service. If by any chance something happens to the transmission down the line first thing they'll say is that the shiftsence put to much strain on the transmission and bla bla bla bla bla :jerkoff:

Anyone have any insight on how this might improve the rough downshifting when coming to a stop?

It has nothing to do with that; this system is literally the exact same as shifting from S1-S6 on your own, it just has predetermined shift points.

Yeah, I get that but the OP said that it has specified downshifting points too. My truck will decide as I'm coasting between 10-15 mph that it needs to slam down into 2nd gear if it was previously in a higher gear. Especially evident in stop and go traffic.

I thought you were referring to the "rumble strip" feel some people experience. As far as just downshifting, I think you're right. I sure would like to test drive a truck with this in it to see how it works before buying one.

Mine is now due here on Thursday according to the USPS. It'll get installed immediately as I have a trip to Houston this weekend and I want to see how it does on the highway. So hopefully early next week I'll have some insight about it to share. I unfortunately have to rip it right back out on Monday night because the truck is headed to the dealer to initiate rear-diff gasket replacement on Tuesday.

Make sure they have the parts in hand and know what they are going to do before taking it in. So it doesn't get held hostage while they try to figure out what to do regarding the recall, as some have reported around here...........

Yes my service-advisor and I already talked that through. They promised my truck won't be held hostage since it isn't part of the recall. Thanks!
