True , it sounded like you do almost all of your driving at 72 . I thought I read that all you have to do is put it in drive , then back to S to restart it at under 65 .

I did a 100mile round trip today at 72, cops everywhere so just not worth it. I know why he's made it hold 5th gear, so inclines and wind don't cause a downshift, however this is how automatics work, 6th gear is like 0.583 ratio to keep the RPM down, 5th gear slightly above for that reason, the downshift isn't so violent.

    Catch 22 really.

I hear you. I am waiting to see how this really works. Does yours lock up the torque convertor in 6th at 72 mph ? I have seen mine seem to lock /unlock or maybe it is going from 6th to 6th unlocked or is it 5th , then 5th locked ? I am not trying to be a smartass but it is hard for me to tell what the trans is really doing . I hope this makes sense .

I have no idea, I assumed it was always locked once you've got it spinning at a decent rate

I usually tell by what the real-time mpg is reading.
    >15 mpg unlocked
    hovering between 15 and 30, half-lock
    25-30 locked
    This is in D.

DZ.....since mine has not been made yet, Order 1116, can you PLEASE disconnect the beep speaker in mine....PLEASE? I really am not looking forward to this regardless of how quiet it may or may not be. Last thing I want it so hear another noise. I am so anal that I will sit there and listen for it which will drive me nuts which will likely result in me removing it from my vehicle. I don't buy the "safety" argument as my auto trans shifter, gas pedal, brake pedal, and everything else potentially safety related doesn't beep when I use it. PLEASE disconnect it in my order????

Had TSB rev 1 done and things were much better - decided to "order" and see how much it improves pulling my 1500 lb trailer exclusively in S mode. Order #1150, 2-3 wk delivery time. More to come.

You may not want to do this because it can be OCD , but watch the tach and see what it does at 72 . Like you said , a little wind or hill , and it changes . It is really hard to tell what is really going on . From what I think I know (lol), it is better for the trans temps to have the torque convertor to be locked up as there is no slipping. After the TSB rev-1 , was the first time I could ever get into 6th above 65 mph unless it was down hill or flat without wind . I have not used D since the TSB rev-1 for more than 20 miles , and I had it done 1200 miles ago. I have been using S5.

That's MY plan and why I decided to buy it. It's my hope the other shift points will make up for the inconvenience of shifting to 6th gear. The way I see it, it should be less shifting than what I have to do now.

Toyota calls it flex lock; it's a solenoid operated TC clutch.

No wonder why it is so hard to know what is happening . With the scan gauge it is an eye opener to watch the temps go up to over 210 even without towing in 60 degree weather. I am just trying to decide weather to add a larger cooler or not as I tow here when it is 100 degrees plus .
This is another reason I feel this shift sense is a good idea , less slipping by being in too low of a gear.

Couldn't hurt. Seen some nice setups around here with their own fan.
Those temps are why I'm changing fluid at 30K.

Last thing I would do would be add a cooler. The system is engineered. There is a reason they don't add a trans temp gauge. That shit can get well over 300* when pulling a hill. Could you imagine how many people would pull over and "let it cool down" that's why they run synthetic, you ain't gunna hurt it. Trans may have shifting issues, gaurenteed it will run longer than you will probably own the truck.

I can barely hear it. Its a really low volume.

On another note, I took my truck to the dealer today for warranty work and recall check and left it all connected and plugged in. They didnt mention it or say anything to me about it. Its very inconspicuous if you hide the module inside the console.
