It's obviously not a deal killer to me as I made the purchase... But if I can get it without why it's being built, which is what I prefer, than why not?

Overall I'm really pleased with mine. My only complaint is that it doesn't use 6th gear on the highway. I have found myself using S mode with the shift sense for around town and normal D for the highway.

BTW the beep is extremely quiet, especially when tucked away in the center console.

I ordered mine about a week ago. In the meantime, I've been "manually" shifting just to mimics what the box apparently does. If it works as advertised, I think it'll be a winner.

Been driving around a lot in s4 and s5 on city interstate and parkways to work over the last week.......interestingly, my mpg is at around 21mpg (200 miles of driving) which is the best yet for this truck. Previously I have always just dropped it in D and let it do its thing. I don't think that running a higher rpm is always detrimental to fuel economy......when you are in a shorter gear and light on the throttle, economy can be maximized. Along the same lines, being in a taller gear and bogging down can lower fuel economy. I'm optimistic about this little box.

After using it for a few days, I think I have a better experience manually shifting in S mode vs the ShiftSense. Its not shifting quite how I like , especially above 45 MPH.

Can you elaborate? This has been my hesitation. Maybe it's just a weird quirk for me, but I don't mind it dropping to 5th and coming back to 4th when necessary (assuming I'm going above 45 mph).

I have a question not related to the box but to S mode itself. If you use S mode, put it in
4th does it run though all/hold all gears up to 4th the same way it does in D?

It seems to hold gear in 4th way longer than I like , keeping RPM around 2300 while cruising. I get it though, Its preventing the transmission from going into 5th , then down shifting when you accelerate . But , i would almost prefer this . This unit seems to totally take away from the bogged down stock shift points , but holds higher RPM / lower gear when city driving .. Its just a matter of preference . I'm not surprised, since this is what the unit is designed to do.. BUT , when im above 50 MPH , i'd rather be in 5th , getting ready for 6th, then holding the shift holding 4th gear , waiting for me to accelerate .

Just installed mine Monday, yesterday a 60 mile round trip. Fighting a 30 mph headwind going one way, ran it with shift sense on in 5th gear. Shifts are much better and in the power range. I checked trip mileage when I reached my destination, 22.7 mpg. Tail wind coming back home, drove it in D. I live on a mountain, so it's always a 1000 foot climb out of town up mountain roads. The shift sense really shines on this type of road and makes the vehicle so much easier and more pleasant to drive. Best investment for 3rd gen owners! Took all of 10 minutes to install.

Been driving with this for a few days now too and have to say it is worth its weight in gold for around town driving. I'm very happy the upshift, bog, downshift garbage is gone when driving around town normally. For me, I kinda wish it held 1st gear just a bit longer, but I can just re-train myself to push the pedal a little harder. That is a bit difficult when turning from a stop but is a minor detail.

The highway cruise control situation still isn't great, but I also haven't had much time on the highway yet. These motors lack torque, which makes the transmission constantly shift down looking for the RPMs where there is actually some power to be used. Also, once you drive over about 70mph, the lack of aerodynamics really drag on the the truck too, which amplifies the lack of torque. Seems like Toyota could simply reprogram 5th/6th gear tuning to accommodate.

Props to the OP for all your hard work and ingenuity! When I read your original post, my instant thought was please produce and sell this thing. Boom here we are. You definitely made this truck much better to drive. Thank you!

I drove a 650 mile trip yesterday with about 50 miles of interstate and the rest on 2 and 4 lane state highways. The SS*Pro worked great and kept the truck between 4th and 5th gear. It takes some getting used to - holding 4th longer than what I'm used to, but overall, it worked great.

Thats my only "snag" so far .. is it does hold 4th longer than desired .. i fined myself manually shifting to 5th once I want it.

Why not just use shift sense about town and leave in D on highway
