Does anyone else experience a hard trasmission drop when down shifting in the lower gears? I'll be coasting to a stop and i will hear and feel like a hard knock as the transmission downshifts. Kinda afraid to keep driving it like that. Normal D no issues

I installed mine about a week ago an two things I have noticed,
There is no beeping when I take it from S to D, Beeps on everything else.
It HATES 6th gear, I can get it to shift into 6th but it will not stay. Doesn't matter if its at 78-85, once it shifts into 6th, if I try to maintain that speed it will ALWAYS down shift to 5th. Which sucks as 50% of my commute each day is at 75+ mph.

    Thanks,
    Boswell

Are you driving with a lot of hills, inclines, steep grades? Its meant to keep you in a higher rpm to maintain your speed. If you shift back into drive once you reach 75+ as you stated you will see that the constant up & down shifting that occurs in D. When the Pro is engaged you wont see a lot of 6th gear and its made that way! If for some reason you can hold 6th gear at 75+ on your commute then just leave it in drive! I highly doubt that it will and then just go back to SSP mode or whatever make you happy! I love the way it works for me! Good Luck

I had this issue as well. Started happening about a month after using SSP. Initially it only happened with the SSP, but it eventually started happening in D as well. I bought OVTune and no more hard down shifts. The shifting is now smooth with the SSP or in D. I've been debating if I should sell the SSP. The OVTune with SSP does feel like it accelerates even faster though. However, I rarely use the SSP anymore.

I just wasn't using it. SSP does exactly what it claims to do, but my frustrations with the truck have more to do with the lack of throttle response and power maintenance than shift points. I feel like it would be a must have for folks in somewhat flat areas but here in the land where flat doesn't exist, it really didn't solve any of my issues: increase throttle ... nothing; increase throttle ... nothing; increase throttle ... nothing; mash throttle to floor ... downshift 2 gears rev to 5k rpm, blow past desired speed, upshift, decelerate to 10 mph below desired speed and start all over.

Sounds like you need a throttle booster.

For those that have installed SSP, my main reason I had ordered this was for the initial throttle response from a standstill as well as better shift programing while driving. .....Majority of my driving is on flat ground as a daily driver.

Will I notice much difference off the line or will I still need to stand on the pedal to get this truck to go?

I don't have to slam pedal all the way now to get normal response off the line.

Excellent! Thank you. I'm very happy to hear this. ....This truck has met all my needs, work and play. Looks like this may address my only complaint without the exspense of regearing.

some feedback/insights/thoughts on the SSP after about 3k miles worth of use.
    1. i orderd the SSP because the gear-hunting and over-shifting of the stock transmission was seriously impacting my enjoyment of driving my new taco
    2. with the SSP, my standard weekly 500 mile commute (250 miles each way, highway miles, mostly using cruise control) is MUCH more enjoyable
    3. i drop the shifter into S and let the SSP do the work, and while the cruise control will still 'override' the SSP to maintain speeds,
    4. gear-hunting is essentially eliminated (the truck stays in 5th or 4th longer than in the OEM setting -- and the almost constant back and forth between the two overdrive gears is a thing of the past)
    5. and over-shifting is dramatically reduced (i did half of my commute today, 250 miles with over 5,000 feet in elevation changes, mostly using my cruise control, and i would guess that the transmission shifted at least 50% less often than in OEM setting)
    6. additionally, my mileage on that commute has improved, by a few MPG's as a result, i think, of items #4 and #5 (i.e. fewer of the 'corrective' down-shifts the stock transmission setting overuses)
as others have noted, with SSP, the truck shifts the way "you think it should" -- it gives you more high end of the gears and the truck feels more engaged as a result. i vastly prefer driving with it, even at lower speeds around town, and on the highway the difference is in fact, as i hope i've explained above, dramatic.

lastly, i want to give a shout out to the OP for some excellent customer service. i re-located the unit after my initial installation and didn't realize that in doing so i'd damaged a connection that affected the SSP's functionality; while i ended up repairing the unit myself, the OP's guidance and offering of various solutions was very gracious and helpful, and i really appreciated the support.

overall, i'd conclude by saying that this is the single best mod i've made to a truck that i was very excited to own and drive, and that i now in fact greatly enjoy owning and driving.

    cheers.
