Really!? I thought they permanently discontinued that plan... Would love one but what reasons do you have for thinking this might be in the works?

Yes. In this case maintaining 55-65 on particular grades

The issue I mentioned above is not specific to a given drive mode. I don't have much 'flat' here.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE Just got back home after a 1200 mile round trip from Tampa to the mountains in GA & NC. Truck ran very well on the interstate and very strong in the mountains. Shifted quite well going up the steep grades. Got 23.5 MPG overall. And that was cruising at 75 MPH on the interstates in 95 degree heat !! Very happy with the SS . Might check out the OV tune thing now.

I've never been able to average much better than 16 mpg. Usually worse on trips. TRD 4x4 DC w/ 285's, skids, sliders and Backflip.

I don't have a heavy foot. Seems like most on these boards get much better mpg than I do.

So far haven't seen any mpg change with SSP. Will keep an eye on it.

Another happy customer! Before I got it, I found it hard to stay at speed on Idaho's 80mph freeways due to all the shift seeking. Installed it, and not only was it a lot more consistent at speed, on my first test drive I increased my overall mpg by about 2mpg higher than I've ever gotten before! Will be interesting to see if the mpg increase was just an anomaly or the new normal. Installed it right behind the dash with the switch right at easy reach. Liked that option better than installing it on the side panel in full view.

Got my SSP in the mail today, fast shipping btw to Hawaii. Installed in about 10 minutes and went for a short drive around the block and I was blown away at the way it transforms the truck. This is how the truck should have been from the factory. The truck feels like it has more torque over the entire rpm range. Going downhill it doesn't do the stupid down shifts anymore. Maybe Toyota will come out with a reflash for the TCU to fix their stupid shifting logic, but in the meantime this does the trick.

Got mine Monday, real fast install. Nice long drive today and it was great. On the return trip it turned off. I don't think I hit the stick. Since I was on a highway, I had to pull onto the shoulder to stop so I could re-engage. It was fine for the rest of the trip. Anyone else have the unit disengage?

    a bunch of mods

Id recommend checking connectors/wires to ensure that they are fully seated and that no wires have been pulled out of their connectors. We've heard of a few disengagements and so far nearly all have been caused either by loose connection/ pulled wire, or attempted use in combination with another OBD device or OBD head unit.

By the way, you should be able to re-engage while moving, as long as you are less than 65 mph. Just flip to D and back to S.

On the highway, definitely over 65mph! I'll check the connections tomorrow. If this keeps working well, you have saved me from having to drive it through the showroom window and walking away from it! Thanks!

OK, another long day of driving and I have to say THIS SSP IS FREAKING AWESOME! Toyota keeps saying every problem is "normal". Well I'm going back to the dealer and take the service manager for a ride to show him what normal is! I may even buy another SSP and send it to Toyota so the know how this truck should drive. I have not noticed any difference in gas mileage but the ride is beautiful. Thank you dcz108, without your creation I would have taken the loss and gotten rid of the truck. I drive a lot. Got the truck in January and have over 27k on it. I didn't even drive it for 6 weeks because driving it just pissed me off! Once again THANK YOU!

I wanted to go through a few tanks of gas and various driving conditions before I gave my final thought on this product.

Initially I was amazed at how much this improved my vehicle. I thought I might be disappointed in the end to see my mpg severely affected by this mod.

In conclusion there is no flaws in this product to date. My mpg has not been effected and maybe even slightly improved.

This is a must have mod for 3rd gen Tacoma. I ditto every positive review on this board. I can not give a higher recommendation (6 stars on a 5 star scale).

    ...... S is the new D

If you put it in the console, under the QI charger, the beeps are almost inaudible.
