right on. it fits nicely under there.

Although with V2 it might make it difficult to change modes?

The V2 was designed to allow shift-map selection using the shift lever. So access to the unit is not necessary. In other words, it is still fine to mount it in concealed locations as you like..

OP - I sent you a couple of emails to your website email and have had no response so here they are. I am planning to change the diff to 4.88 and want to know how your device will deal with a non stock gear and tire setup. I also have 265/70r16 tires which are one size bigger. I am also told the vehicle computer speed will no longer match my real ground speed and it will be significant as much as 10 MPH at 60MPH. Thanks

Your speedo is already off 1.6 or 1.9% with those +1 tires. Check the tire calc for the actual numbers

Go to a tire size calculator website. I think speed difference will only be 3-4%, not 16.7% like you're expecting.

Yes I know that and with 4.88 it will grow to 12% But not my question. I want to how the shift points will be affected but the new set up. Speed, torque and engine load will all change.

Heck my 69 firebird had a 3:90 rearend with a 3 speed auto and that thing would scream at about 3500 rpm at about 60-65 mph...

What do you means "for $12 it is worth it?" Can we send our version 1 units back and have them modified to version 2 or do we have to pay full price for a version 2?

V2 of the SSP is the same as V1, but with a different chip inside that enables the new functions. You can purchase an updated chip from the OP's website to turn yours into a V2. Chip is $12.

Basically you open your box, pop the old chip out and put the new one in.

I did it in a few minutes with the older chip.

It's only $12 dollars... and given how the SSP transforms the Taco - well worth the price!

What is involved with installing the V2 chip? Is there soldering involved? Do you have the instructions so they can be published?

No soldering involved. Basically open the lid, unplug the old chip, plug in the new chip. Detailed instructions are included showing exactly how to swap it.

The instructions for switching among the three maps:

    1) Turn the ignition to On position (engine off).
    2) Depress brake and shift to S mode.
    3) After 8 seconds, unit will enter programming mode, (indicated by a long beep).
    4) Immediately after that it will provide either 1, 2, or 3 beep corresponding to the currently selected shift map.
    5) Use the shift lever (+/ -) to change to the desired map selection (it will provide beeps as you index it to indicate the current selection).
    6) Shift back to neutral or park. This stores the selection in memory.
    7) Start engine and go...

If you ever want to change it again, just perform this process. For safety reasons, programming does require the engine to be off, so it cant be done 'on the fly'. However Ive done it several times at a stop light. Takes about 20 seconds to turn engine off, make the selection, and get back on the go.

Would a 3-way toggle switch on the unit make it a lot easier?
