I was thinking the same thing.

But if he is keeping it for himself I guess it’s value overall doesn’t really matter if it functions correctly. If he’s trying to flip it than it definitely a big part of resale. They do sell with salvage titles, but I would never buy one.

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
I think those weighing in on value of salvage vehicles may lack some experience in this field. Depending on the state, salvage vehicle regulations vary widely. I have connections and great familiarity w the tertiary automobile industry. Many insurance companies are willing to auction off vehicles for what frequently represents fairly minor damage, at least in HI for example. Salvage vehicles include not just wrecks, but also theft recoveries and similar. These vehicles in HI are auctioned, but CA has way different rules so they purchase up a ton of these from us, fix them, and in their state, they can get a clear title. When I buy these, and license in HI, it is a salvage title. SAME VEHICLE. Insurance companies can chose to "total" lightly damaged vehicles here. While there are numerous people who purchase auction vehicles that have been totaled with the intent of selling for profit, only just a few people in HI are credentialed to do this, so of course there is potential for abuse here from unscrupulous dealers. Generally, a salvaged vehicle (from collision) is worth about half of KBB.
If this vehicle is misrepresented as simply a "used vehicle" and sold for profit, that's where the abuse comes in. Vehicles that have been totaled in flood situations are a completely different situation, and may not be salvageable for anything but certain parts.
A vehicle that has been determined totaled by insurance carriers that has rebuildable damage can be sold full-disclosure to willing and knowledgeable customers, w salvage title, and provide years of service to the consumer. They will get a vehicle that is going to be cheaper, will work just as well, and if they sell it, they will sell to another knowledgeable customer for appropriate value.

The problems arise when someone misrepresents the vehicle as being simply a used, never wrecked vehicle, and seeks KBB market value.

Ill watch your rebuild thread w interest. That roof damage/windshield frame damage does kinda bother me a lot. The rest of it, not so much.

I completely agree. I will be fixing it for personal use and will likely run it into the ground.

Unless he fixes it and insures it and someone or the owner totals it (hits someone or gets hit) the value won't be there so it will total easier). That's only if it has a salvaged title . You can never control what could happen .
