A couple questions for you Ryan:

Are you planning on wiring up a permanent HAM radio sometime? I'm thinking about it but I'm hesitant since it is hard to find a place and the vehicle mounted ones are expensive.

How are the Maxsa Traction Pads? I'd rather not drop 300 on Maxtrax.

I don't think so, probably just go with the Handheld. We'll see in the future if I feel like it's a need. I like my Maxsa traction boards. Next time I get in mud or sand I'm gonna do some more testing on them. Those are where the shine since the knobbies have something to stick to in the bottom and grip to. I was in the same boat. Didn't wanna spend $300 on maxtrax when these were less than half the price

Yeah they work pretty well. I say they're worth it

    Wassssup G!

Haha yeah dude, I was thinking about the shackle flip until I started reading all that and I realized what he was saying made a lot of sense. So I decided against it.

Basically what I get is that when you have a shackle flip, your leaf springs will sit more flat at ride height even though they are designed to sit with an arch in them. That being said, they will wear out much quicker and when you stuff your wheel you will be going into negative arch even further which will make your leaf spring more susceptible to breaking. Yes you get the benefit of more droop but there is not much more benefit.

Its almost primarely an east coast thing.. Which is great if you have leaf packs designed for a regular shackle, but everyone has Dakars or All pro's which are designed for the inverted shackle.

Basically when at ride height if you draw an imaginary line from eye lit to eye lit across the spring it'll be a flat straight line. At full bump your leaf pack will also be flat.
With a shackle flip it isn't a straight flat line, and at full stuff your leaf pack now goes negative because you've changed the geometry.

You can get just as much flex out of the inverted shackle with poly bushings

Thats completely different. The Chevy 63's flex like a mofo and are designed for a regular shackle. But there is a lot of grinding/welding/lining up the axle etc.. so I wouldn't say its an easy thing to do.

Pretty much I think that would be a good solution. You gain droop but also still have heavy duty springs to be able hold weight for a lot of us who lean towards the EXPO type of trucks
