Looks like either your vehicle didn't come with them or the LBJ was replaced in the past but they left them off. I'm more inclined to believe the latter.

You can still buy the boot protector and install it and use the OE black bolts that I mentioned in a previous post. If you decide to not use the protector, I would personally pay a little extra and get the ARP bolts.

As for the effectiveness of the protectors...I can't say...but I'm sure it won't hurt. It's much more vulnerable if your wheel has a higher negative offset or if you're using spacers. My wheels are -19 offset with 3.75" BS which exposes the LBJ boot substantially.

The LBJ he have is definitely not OEM. It has a grease nipple on it. The dust protector does help substantially. I changed my buddy's LBJ while 1 side had it and the other didn't, the one with the dust protector, it look so much cleaner. It does protect the internals from the elements.

I personally would turn this into a wrenching day and change the LBJ to OE while I'm at it. That's just me.

Good eye. I noticed the boot even looks different than OE.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I have never seen any Tacoma`s with the ball joint Covers

Now my (2000) Ball joints came with plugs where the grease fittings are installed.

Sorry to all, I have been forced away, and no idea why which means in all likelihood I may accidentally repeat whatever stupid reason I was forced away in the first place. Likely my last post here for that reason.

The cliff notes: the shocks and coilovers arrived the very next day after my last post, well packaged, assembled correctly, after installing them and a new steering rack and TRE's (McGeorge Toyota) with ES red bushings, and having an alignment, the Taco handles and drives like a dream, like new. I gained exactly one inch in front height which was expected (20.5 to 21.5, center hub to fender.) I don't know what everyone's issue is with SuspensionLifts dot com, but everything went perfectly, arrived within days instead of weeks, email responses were immediate, I couldn't be more satisfied with their service. Steering is tight as a pin and I have finally solved the right-drift this truck has always had, it was the rack all along.

Pics tell the whole story, it's like a new truck again.

For reference, old shock bushings were totally shot, rears not so bad.

Congratulations on the fix @rocknbil. It's sure nice seeing pics of a rust-free Tacoma!

If you're ever looking, I have a new extra ubj for an 01 that I don't have anymore.
OEM part # but I don't remember OEM being greasable.
Also have 2 new lbj's for a 2016 I'm not going to use.

edited. the 01 is an upper ball joint.

Have approximately 400 miles on it highway/city, just measured it at 21". Settled in a little, my guess is 20.5" was a slight sag.

I am complete newbie to the truck world.
    Thanks,

I found these (same ones I have) which are specifically for 6 lug only, 2WD or 4WD. If you have 5 lug nuts on your wheels, these are not correct. Contact them to confirm, I am sure they can set you up if you have a 5 lug truck, I didn't see any off the bat.

A note on 4600 vs 5100: 4600's are non-adjustable and as close to stock as you'll get (they are even selling new trucks with Bilsteins now.) 5100's are adjustable and only needed if you're thinking about some sort of lift.
