No worries. It happens fairly often that's why it was the first thing that came to several member's minds.

Did you try to reinstall the correct way. If the perch acts as a sleeve around the clip, you might be able to salvage it after all. Can't hurt to try.

i wouldnt. if the groove is comprimised too much it might hold the spring for now but the first big bump you hit it could make a scary ride. and it could "hurt"

The groove shouldn't have taken much damage. The perch slipped because the perch was upside down and forming a sleeve to prevent the clip from spreading and slipping. If anything would have taken some stress/damage, I would look at the clip itself to see if its deformed. From the pics, it just looks like the clip spread from the downward stress and nothing there to reinforce it.

All you have to do is mike the groove and one you didn't use to see if they are the same depth. I see the scoring, but just put the split in the clip there. From the pics, there looks to be a scrape where the perch slipped, the clip is still in place which means that is still has some sort of shape. If they are going to slip, they more than likely will in the compressor(I assume you are using the wall type).

You you re-used the damaged shock? What height did you set them at?

it won't affect anything, the samething happened to me and I ran them at 1.75" for a couple months and then 0" with 886. Never had an issue with the shocks.

It WILL affect something. The integrity of the seat was compromised. Just because nothing happened to you, doesnt mean it wont to someone else.

I don't think that is was the groove that was compromised. The clip spread at the break and slipped out of the groove beacuse is didn't have the perch over the clip the right way to reinforce it. All you need to do is mike it and check the depth and make sure the grooves shoulders are not rounded.

Just my .02 cents. A couple hundred bucks to buy new shocks would be a cheap price to know that the groove isnt comprimised. there would probably be no problem, so you hope. but i wouldnt risk an accident for $200. If a large impact ever happens you will always wonder. Over time there is a chance that due to the section being comprimised the ring can slowly work its way out of the groove. Not likely but its possible and not worth the risk to me...

This is what happened to me too. Because the coil seat wasn't over the snap ring it just pushed it out. The grove on mine wasn't affected so there wasn't an issue for me.

just put 5100s on the front of mine, set at 0.85. Yea, that little snap-ring really worries me. Doesn't seem beefy enough to support the weight of the truck, especially off-roading.
