Sorry if this is a stupid question... 2017 Tacoma, I have about #200 pounds of constant weight on the rear, often much more, with bikes and camping gear it gets up there. I have lost about 1 inch just with the #200, and loaded down the truck is not fun to drive.

My big question is, if I get a 1.5 inch lift out of the AAL above factory height (for me, 22" from the center of the wheel) do I need a set of longer travel shocks? Is there any danger with jacking up the rear 1.5 inches and not changing the shocks?

I've thought about Hellwig helpers, not doing sumo springs, so lets not go there, haven't ruled them out completely. Thank you!

Stock should work without a problem, but good shocks in the rear will work better and help reduce the amount of down travel lost. Bilstein 5100 or Eibach pro-truck shocks aren't too expensive and are much better than the stock ones.

Unless he buys extended 5100s they will not be any better than stock. They are the collapsed and extended length as stock, which would not help with down travel.

Looked it up and you are correct, same length but better valving for an aal. The eibachs are longer at 24" extended, so I thought the bilsteins would be as well. Either way, looks like OP bought nicer suspension than either option.
