Hey guys, new here to the website and new to any in-depth mechanic work like I’ve been doing lately. Reading these forums along with YouTube have been a big help. Appreciate any feedback!
Just bought this bad boy a couple months ago. 5.7L V8. 150K miles. I knew it needed upper control arms and lower ball joints replaced. Did so myself, couldn’t get lower ball joints out so replaced whole LCA with mevotech arms and slapped Zone UCA on there. Also, threw new tires on(35s), had the alignment done and took off the sway bar(that’s bc sway bar links wouldn’t fit into LCA, got new mevotech ones coming). All that and the front suspension is still making noise with every bump, so thinking the shocks/struts are going out. Sort of a deeper thud noise with each bump. I have Icon 2.5 on there and they’re looking a little weathered… debating to send them for a rebuild or just replacing them with other shocks? Can’t afford to break the bank on new Icons, so was thinking something a little more affordable like Bilstein, Eibach or something else. What do you guys think? And should I be worried abt changing out the shocks asap(making a good amount of noise) or will they be fine to hold out a little longer and save money for something of higher quality? I live in a small mountain town in Colorado where we get a bunch of snow and then do a lot of off-roading throughout the hunting seasons working as a guide. Not afraid to use it, just don’t always have to bank roll to back it!

Welcome, this a Tacoma, though not far off the subject. Almost all of the high end suspension dampers aka shocks, need to be overhauled at 50k miles. Icon does not have the best reputation here, though they can be fully overhauled by the right company usually for less than a quality set of dampers plus shipping and labor to remove and reinstall them.
The risk of a damper failing is kinda high since you don’t know the history of them.

Welcome to Tacoma World. That's a mighty large lookin' Tacoma...have you checked out Tundras.com?

If it were my truck, I'd take a closer look at those springs on your coilovers first, something don't look right. Hard to diagnose over the internet, you or someone else who knows suspension stuff might need to get in there and look/check things closer. Good luck.
