I live in Elizabeth so it was bout an hour drive for me but worth it. Tim is a good dude and had my Icons knocked out in a couple hours.

    Hey @TimF
Is it possible to take regular travel rear Icons and make them into extended travel?? My regular Icon vs2.0 seem a little short with my Dakars... I know wheelers sells ext.. Icons same part number as regular....Would that be something you could do?
    Thanks
    Rebecca

I do not know for sure. If I can open one I can see if there is a spacer I can take out or shorten to lengthen the shocks.

I doubt it has a spacer in it. The shock bodies themselves looked really short. Can you find the exact ones you bought to get a travel figure? Or did you unbolt the bottom mount and see how far below the axle it sits at full extension?

yeah I think maybe that's what Wheelers does but since you don't know for sure maybe I'll just buy the ext length.. Just thought if you knew if that's what they did then I could save my cash...Thanks Tim

Sometimes it's not even the travel that makes a shock considered extended/long travel. On a set of shocks I was looking at, they had a normal travel version and an extended/lt version. The only difference in the two were the bottom mounts. One had a 3" extended eyelet mount, the other was normal.

As a rebuilder, any shocks you would stay away from or recommend? I'm looking at going Mid travel after the 1st of the year?

Imo, Fox, King, Icon, Sway a way/aFe are all good products and all have the same corrosion issues in our environment if the mag chloride isn't washed off regularly.

The only shocks I would stay away from are the walker Evans. Their seal head design will weld its self to the body in no time up here. I have yet been able to get one apart.

Why do you think your rears are too short? Just curious cause we have the same rear components.

No droop so I bought extended Icons and bump stops....the shocks are my limiting factor

@303tacoma I don't know if Icon does this but Sway Away does it to where you can change out the bottom eyelet mount and they make standard size ones up to 3" extended ones. Like how I mentioned above.

BTW, See you saturday around noon Tim :D

yeah I already ordered the extended icons. Talked to Wheelers and they said they are custom built no extended mount.. 10.9" travel vs 9"We'll see I get them today. Hopefully I'm understanding right cuz I really don't have a clue...:D Haha

Just an update on the extended 2.0 vs Icons the shock body is close to 3" longer than the non extended so I'm pretty sure @Squeaky Penguin was right about not being able to convert reg to extended....

Thanks to @TimF for rebuilding my coilovers over the weekend. They were definitely in need of some maintenance. You were right about the settings, they were set for WAY to much preload with those new coils lol. It was stiffer than a morning woody when I put them on. I ended up dropping the preload by around 1-1/4 inches!

That sounds about right with the longer coil and higher spring rate.

Poly or SAW direct should be able to get the new misalignments.

I may have to hit you up soon @TimF to rebuild my front Icons. I've been looking for someone local since I moved to CO and I'm going on almost 3 years now without them being touched. What's your normal turn around time?
