My second generation TRD with 73,000 on it seems to be running a little lumpy lately. I have been considering new shocks in the rear possibly the front if it's practical to do all four corners. It was suggested that unless they are leaking do not change them why waste your money? But if she's running lousy ,ride wise ,should I just change them anyway? Any thoughts? These are the original parts on my truck

You can look in the 3rd gen marketplace for trd bilstein shocks that someone took off and is selling. May save you some $$

Exactly what I would say. If you can do it yourself the total cost should only be between $300-400. Also if you want to you can level the truck. They give a better ride with less body roll too.

Yes replace all four. No need to wait till they're broken/leaking. You can go stock again or upgrade which is a loooong story but lots of info here. I replaced my tired shocks with low mileage take offs from a 2017 3rd gen OR. Ride is great and lifted the front an inch.

The 5100s have different heights settings ,I'm aware of that. Do they come out of the package on the lowest height setting? And will I just be able to put them right in with out any adjustments needed? I just might put them in as they are on the stock height . Any recommendations on which height would be best suited to my needs.? I am mostly city driving but every now and then I go fishing out in the woods

Yes they should come on the stock height setting but I would check and make sure when you get them. If you aren't going to get any bigger of a tire then you will be fine at the stock setting, which will also be the softest ride. And yeah you can just swap them out but make sure to get an alignment afterwards. You always need one whenever you change anything with the suspension.

I recently had my rear shocks replaced at the dealership when they changed my frame because they messed up mine. They broke the covers on the rear shocks and they put on new OEM shocks. Does anyone know how much front OEM shocks cost and how long it takes to change the front? I will take my truck to my mechanic who charges 70 an hour. Just wondering how long it takes to change the front. My truck is 05 regular cab 4wd.

Huge savings there versus about$115 -$120 per hour at dealerships. Dealership wanted to charge me $127 per stock strut. At AutoZone I got Bilstein 5100s for $114 each and $80 for rear . Also 5200 bilstein

I wanted to put the 5100's on mine front and back but I had the rears replaced for free with OEM Toyota shocks. Could I still put the 5100 on the front?I thought about putting them on the .85 setting in the front. Would it matter that they are different brands?

So I replaced my rear shocks with the Bilstein 5100's
But I neglected to put the little metal spacer back on that goes under bottom washer and bushing before I feed through the upper mount. Is this aserious problem? I noticed a guy on a video put it back on for some reason .I'm not sure if I did anything wrong.

I only did roughly 2 mile road test and it seems outstanding. I've got 40 miles to put on it today Up and back to work I'm hoping everything will be OK. Very concerned about long-term problems

Yes I am doing all four corners with the 5100s. The front should be delivered in two or three more days from now.

If you missed the metal spacer now is a good time to put it back on before the threads get rusty, it won't take you long to fix, whatever was there before you should put back on in correct order.
