I'm thinking about shocks. But, my main concern is on road ride, not off-road. I find the truck a bit floppy. I'd like to tighten it up. My choices are Bilstein 4600 or 5100.
    Thoughts?
    TIA,
    Scott

5100’s will firm it up on road. It would be a great choice for what you’ve described you're looking for.

If you don’t plan on lifting. True 4600 would be my suggestion unless you dislike the blue/ yellow scheme.

Find someone with TRD Sport take-offs. They will be a bit stiffer. The 5100's on stock springs and stock ride height will be softer as they are meant for a little more offroading.

Both will be an upgrade from the stock SR5 Hitachi's, but the 4600's ride tremendously softer than 5100's on the road. 4600 would be my choice. I don't care for the 5100's much, I find them overly stiff for no reason.

According to Bilstein, The 4600 and 5100's are pretty much the same shock. 4600's are for stock applications and 5100's are for lifted applications.

I've driven the Sports and they were better. What would be the next step up in stiffness from those shocks?

Sport's are the stiffest OEM shocks for these trucks. If you like those you will probably like the 5100's. Most of us find them to be harsh and many owners swap them for a softer option.

If I was looking to save a few bucks and keep the truck as it is, I’d shop for some OR takeoffs.
If I was looking to buy new, I’d spend a little more and get the 5100s.

OR take offs are the softest made...even softer than the OP's SR5's. The Sport is the stiffest.

Usually people find them harsh because they are using them to lift as well and the pre-load is causing the rough ride. The valving in the 5100's are just as soft as the OR shocks from my experience.

How do the 6112 compare to the 5100's for on road stiffness?

5100's are noticeably stiffer than stock OR bilstein's, but I definitely wouldn't consider them harsh or overly stiff for on road. There's not a lot of other shock options in that price bracket either. I'd still recommend the 5100's for a daily driver and mild off road use.

I just got TRD Suspension Upgrade which are the Bilsteins 5100s...My Sport is now Lifted:

2" in the front, 1" in the back.

These 5100s are definitely WAY better than the Hitachi ones removed.

My truck is daily driver and mostly road miles for now.

I can compare the ride to 2024 Tacoma Limited because it was the Loaner while my Sport was getting worked on.

The suspension felt almost identical...the ride height is just about the same...the Limited has 18" wheels.

Much better grip on the road are the Bilstein 5100s and a firmer ride but not too harsh.

If if was me, I would lift the front 1" with Bilstein 5100s, just to eliminate the oem brake dive, which I considered floppy! You don't even need to raise the rear.

    Good luck Scott.

I have the 5100 with 2885 coils front and 5125 rear with RXT @ 2 and think they firmer compared to the Sport stock suspension. I prefer the 5100 and they were the best bag for the buck considering my application. Less brake dive and cornering body roll.
My understanding is that the 4600 and 5100 are the same with the exception of the height adjustment. Same shock diameter and valving.
I wonder how many of the people that dislike the 5100 reused the stock springs? Or perhaps it is the digressive valving.
This is what Bilstein says about the two....

Thanks for the link. Since I don't want to lift, sounds like the 4600 is the one.
