Shocks for stock TRD OR?

So I bought a 2009 Tacoma DC TRD OR 4x4 with 174,000 miles on it. Overall the truck was in great shape. The one thing I think I need to replace though is the shocks. They are really grundgy/rusty looking on the outside and in the extensive vehicle service history listed on toyota's website, I don't see that the shocks were ever replaced.

I am wanting to do a very small lift at some point in the future when the extra funds are available. Most likely just 1-2 inches. I don't want to lose too much in the way of towing, payload, handling, etc but I'm still looking to get a bit more clearance.

So the gist of my question is this: Can I buy some new shocks for the truck now that would still be compatible for a small lift in the next 6-12 months? If so, what are your recommendations? If not, would it be better to just continue on with the current shocks and wait until I lift the truck to replace them? I don't want to pay twice for shocks in a short time-frame.

For consideration, I don't daily drive the truck. It mostly sits and waits for errands or family trips.

For an affordable option and 1" of front lift, buy a set of take off 2016-2019 Tacoma TRD Off Road or Sport front shocks and springs. The front springs give 1" of lift and a low mileage set of all 4 shocks with front springs is going for approximately $200. I plan to do this for my own 2010 Tacoma soon.

The Sports give a firmer ride. The springs are linear rate versus the progressive rate springs from the Off Road.

Would these be the correct items? https://www.suspensionconnection.co...Q8ciWbMrEj8VZMWdIKYKzSD0FmikIsGxoCnkEQAvD_BwE

Set to 883, it looks like it would be a 1.5 inch lift. Does that make it purely level with the rear or do you think the rear would need adjustment too?

If the rear stays level, what shocks for the rear should I get?

On my Access cab it was just a bit higher than level. I liked the factory take so I went with an aal in the back.

No idea if the little extra weight of a double cab would put it level

Is the aal just a added leaf? What does that get you? 1 inch?

Side Note: I was quoted $250 install price for front shocks and coils from a local shop. $140 for rear. I am pretty sure I can do the rear myself but I don't have the equipment or desire to dive into the front myself without knowledgeable guidance in person. Is $250 a fair price for this work?

I did the 3rd Gen OR coilovers and rear shocks and got right at 2 inches in the front. Its a simple swap out and can be done easily in a couple hours. I just watched some youtube videos as i was doing it. Very easy.

So is the 3rd gen naturally 2 inches higher in the front then? Did you buy the parts on this TW Marketplace?

They are 1 inch higher but for some reason i got 2 inches. Maybe because im a 4cyl and dont have as much weight; i have no idea. I bought mine from The Texas Classified Sticky on TW.

Ok thanks. Maybe I will just go this route. It might be cheaper to be someone's slightly used complete set vs brand new online.

I got coilovers, rear shocks, UCAs and leafs for $200 with 10k miles on them. He threw in the spacer lift with rear blocks. I sold the spacer, blocks, UCAs and all my take off stuff for $120. So all in it cost me $80 and i still have the rear leafs sitting in the garage for when my leafs start to sag. Kinda hard to beat!

So do the rear leafs from the 3rd gen fit the 2nd gen as well then? If so, does that change your ride height like the front swap does? And will I need new UCAs as well for the front or do the coils/shocks of the 3rd gen fit the UCAs of the 2nd gen?

Rear leafs will fit but not sure if they lift any since they havent been installed. Nope, you dont need new UCAs because youre putting on factory suspension that will not be over 3 inches of lift.

Check in your regional forum for the buy sell trade threads. Not sure what area youre in.

Ok great. So then I should be fine with the standard coils and shocks for the front and just some new shocks for the rear. My leafs should be fine, pretty sure they're new anyways since they were replaced with the frame swap a few years ago.

Yeah but make sure they are the TRD Offroad or TRD sport coilovers. Typically they will come with rear shocks.

Ok great. Some of the items in the for sale section have 20k miles on them already. Do you think that's too many for shocks?

So I bought a set of Bilstein shocks front and rear along with front coils yesterday from a 2017 Tacoma TRD OR with about 18,000 miles on them.

Now I just to get them installed!
