Shocks (other then billy's)

Ok so i apologize i've searched everywhere and all I get are "GET BILLY 5100s!!" More than likely i am going to get them but i'd like to keep my options open. Any other suggestions? My chevy friend is always telling me to get skyjackers or ranchos but i feel like thats just because he's a chevy meat head. I was looking at these pro comps

but I don't know anything about them. Also, I have an 03 tacoma with stock coils and leafs and 31s.

i also should have mentioned I only do small weekend warrior/trail runs. I think, if I looked at the right ones, those were more hardcore than what I need. Thanks for the suggestion though.

 

honestly the bilsteins are great compared to stock. Everyone uses them and loves them! so why not get them? haha

 

well that was my thought exactly, you know everyone on here uses them so they obviously must be good but I just wanted to keep my options open and see if there were any other suggestions, especially with my money situation right now.

 

In order of robustness and increasing cost:
Spacers -> Bilstein 5100 -> OME Nitrocharger -> Coilovers

 

I vote some nitrochargers and corresponding coils. This is the only set up that doesn't really pre-load your suspension

 

This, I would go OME before 5100

 

Look into rancho 2.5" quick lift. Pretty cheap and you can adjust the stiffness of the shocks.

 

Alright So I need front coilovers, can I use the stock coils with the OME Nitros? and best place to find them?

Noob question, what is the benefit of not having preloaded suspension? I assume pre-loaded is not as good?

 

Less travel, stiffer suspension.

 

And premature wear. The shock will want to "fight" with the spring to get back to it's original position. Spacer lifts and bilstein 5100s preload the suspension and when coilovers are cranked up to a certain amount of lift, they too are preloading the spring. However bilstein 5100s and coilovers are both good options, just at different spectrums of the market (ones relatively cheap, the other not so much). Spacers are what you should really beware of.

 

You won't gain amylose with stock coils and nitros. They are not ride height adjustable. What cab size, engine size, gen are you? Any extra weight up front?

 

I'm 1st gen, 2003, extracab, v6 (3.7 i believe?) and there is no extra weight but I do plan on getting a relentless or ARB type front bumper.

^^Thats my truck, almost all the weight is on the back with that ladder rack but its probably 100 pounds maybe, it basically levels off the truck.

 

I'd recommend the 882 springs if you're getting a bumper as well, but to level it out you will need to do something about the rear

 

yea really what im going to do is get my leafs re-arched because they're sagging pretty bad, but im just trying to find a good set up for the front with coilovers. On the cheap too lol.

 

I just installed the OME lift , very impressed so far

 

if you dont mind me asking, how much did it run you and did you do all 4 shocks and coil overs or what?
