Anyone run a Craftsman compressor? Just saw a very nice, lightly used 60 gallon 3.1 running HP on FB this morning. But damn, they want almost $1000 for it

These specs are exactly in line with what Ive been looking for, and I think the color scheme looks better than some other brands' flashy colors
Probably will sit on it a week or two and then offer them $500. Seems to be the upper end of what used 60 gallon units are going for in my area.

I am happy with it, it's not terribly loud

My shop is 30' X 36' insulated so that helps with noise too.

A little overkill for running 2 bays but my IR has been flawless! I think I got it for $600 as an "open-box". Check local compressor shops for used etc. You can find some deals out there for sure. Plumbed it into a MaxLine system with drops around the shop. 1719240360693977588115067294645.jpg

For the noise you can build a simple 2x4 frame house with a doorway around the compressor and put 2 inch insulation foam on the frame, for the "door" either add a hinge or just tuck one big piece of the foam to seal it. Make the framed house about 2 times the size of the compressor so there's enough air/cooling and it'll make a drastic change in the noise level.

Nice. Id love to plumb air throughout my garage like that, but realistically its overkill for me only being in a 24x28 space. Considering a centrally located hose reel though

    Good to know

    Congrats on your new garage!

I'd seriously consider your CFM requirements as having a semi-portable 26 to 30 gallon tank on wheels is waay more convenient than a large 60 gallon compressor in a garage setting. I have both.. a 30 gallon at home in the garage and a 60 gallon in the warehouse/shop. The 30 gallon could handle everything I currently do even with a CNC 45 amp plasma table.

I'm a fan of the old school simple oiled compressor motors. There are portable oil-less compressors with quiet technology like the Kobalts that are reasonable.. I do not know about the longevity as I've had a 2 gallon for a couple years but it rarely gets used (mainly serves as a mobile back-up unit.).

There's a Kobalt 26 gallon with quiet tech for $379. Might be worth searching for owner reviews. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I assumed I could run extra hose if I never needed to work outside the garage. But realistically I dont see much need for that

Definitely starting to consider a smaller unit though. Apparently good 60 gallon ones are hard to come by in my area

    minor tweaks
I used to own a 60gal V twin 220V compressor, our master bedroom is over the garage and if I forgot to turn it off, when it cycled it would wake us up, not the ideal location for a big v twin compressor but I'm space limited. I didn't need it's CFM capability, I mainly use it for tires, air tools a die grinder and a MC lift.

Sold the big one for almost what I paid and I changed over to a . If it cycles at night it's no louder than the central air coming on inside the house and I can have a conversation in the garage when it's running. I wouldn't pay what they're asking for it at the moment w/o having a decent coupon or a sale but I have no complaints with it.
