I will call Toyota and ask tomorrow but meantime can anyone explain $18.66 in shop supplies to change the belt?
    Anyone?
Im going to tell the service lady to start wearing a ski mask and a gun.

They're a real thing,,,, but have really been taken advantage of. Nearly 20 scoots to chuck a belt is booshit.
When I was in high school, my buddy took his GMC Cyclone (remember those?!) to the local Mobile service station (remember those?!). Well he was out of money, so his dad gave us his card to cover the bill. When we got back he looked over the bill, and there was some erroneous fee for disposal and waste. He immediately called, got the manager on the phone, and told him "the boys will be back up in 10 minutes to dig the TPS sensor out of your trashcan and grab a new copy of the CC receipt. Needless to say, we didn't need to make the run, he fixed the charges over the phone and apologized.

I agree apparently it usually a percentage of the labour to cover costs on rags wheel weights etc.
But ya $20 on a belt ..they already dinged me $140 Canadian to replace it lol.

It's usually a % of the labour. Most dealers will waive it the second someone mentions it.

I try to do things for the customer on small jobs like top off fluids and tire pressures to warrant it on a belt replacement etc.

I felt like a sucker before i stepped in the door. I knew fully I could have bought the belt and taken it somewhere else and probably saved a few bucks. Pretty simple job really. I guess I felt better with piece of mind lol.

That’s the cost of not knowing how, too lazy or too old to do it yourself.

Old. My dad worked on his Jeep up until he died at 89. Of course it was a jeep so it had to be worked on but he was never too old, nor too lazy. Frankly what he was was “never going to let those idiots at that ‘clip joint’ gonna rip him off!”

So I wanted them to see wtf was going on.
    I am no mechanic :-(

My dealership doesn't have donuts - we have a really fancy customer lounge with cafe and bakery vending machines.

I make sure to swing by the Starbucks down the road for a venti triple caramel macchiato with almond milk and double-smoked bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on the way in to my appointments to save some money.

Most likely lack of know how. If you have a 14mm socket, breaker bar, and 5mm Allen, it’s very doable. Most can’t locate the service hole to insert the Allen key. Once you do, doesn’t take that long.

I prefer not to insert my breaker bar in the service hole of any Alan.

It's the way of the world my friend. If you can't or don't want to do the job yourself you have to pay the fiddler. When you let yourself get upset, it's only makes things worse.
