No drain plug so we vacuum the rear axle gear oil.

I suspect this is the original 1966 fill.

If it is, the oil should be sent to museum for vintage petroleum product preservation :anonymous:

Thunderbirds are practicing for the Air Show this weekend. Since my desk sits about a half mile or so from the center point of the runway where the jets like to meet for all their maneuvers it is a bit distracting to get some work done.

I have 2 + quarts of genuine Ford gear oil, circa 1966 for the prize dumpster *cough* warehouse...

This high quality oil is truly a gift that will keep on giving - especially if you have the misfortune to spill it.

It would be the ideal prize for one of our more "office type" readers who might not be intimately familiar with gear oil - kind of a horizon broadening experience for the whole family. :)

Our shop foreman @six5crèéd said to put it in a plastic milk jug, (I have one that blew out of someone's recycle bin about 4 years ago - should be fine) then throw it in a cardboard box (for extra protection you know) and send it to you -- collect.

    BTW:
Thanks so much for administrating the prize system, most folks just don't appreciate all the hard work involved -- those code enforcement and haz-mat people :spy::spy::spy: really don't have much of a sense of humor do they?

That would be perfect for a coffee creamer, FYI @StayinStock

My dad would have poured it on the ground, his words would be "oil comes out of the ground, what's it hurt to put it back?"

Thank you!! We'll take it!! If you have any extra just put it in ziplock sandwich bags and send it to Creed's house, he's in charge of our liquid valuables. :)
He'll also cover shipping because he's in charge of that too.

Powdercoater just told me his back up air compressor has been in for 24 years, has 53,808 hours on it.

Well, here we are again with the drum brakes on the front - the wagon looks identical except the shoes are 3" wide - also used on police & taxi package cars.

Passenger cars used a 2-1/2" wide shoe.

    KIMG4237.jpg

The self adjuster cable was broken and floating around in the drum accompanied by a shing, shing, shing noise.

Speaking of the self adjuster - it was stuck due to lack-o-lube.

    KIMG4236.jpg

Well experienced people will tell you lubrication makes everything better. ;)
    @Delta09

A brake inspection calls for gently pulling the boots back on the wheel cylinders - it should be clean & dry.

    KIMG4238.jpg

... should be, would be & are don't mean the same thing BTW... o_O
    .
    .
The cost & effort to fix or even upgrade the brakes is minor compared to the rest of this project. :pout:

On the positive I might evolve into a halfway decent welder by the time I'm done....

... or Mrs Green will sell the thing at a giant loss at my estate auction.
