E85 is for Flex Fuel Vehicles which is indicated by E85 inside the fuel door or on the fuel cap.

The Pilot isn't Flex Fuel but it's possible, but not a certainty, that he put E85 in it.

That could definitely effect things, misfires being a very likely outcome. What kind of car and what code(s)?

Can you figure out if E85 was used by the price/volume/etc? I assume it's priced differently than regular dino fuel. If that is the case, my suggestion would be to siphon as much as you can out of the tank, and fill it with high-test and take it for a good, long run. If you get the flashing MIL (indicating major misfires), than try to adjust your driving to a point where it stops flashing. Once you've got about a half-tank through it, pull the negative cable for a few minutes and to do a soft reset of the ECU. Otherwise you're going to need to beg/borrow/buy a scan tool.

He (possibly) filled with E85 on the previous tank. When he mentioned it, he was already at half a tank so I filled it with Premium from Costco.

I haven't yanked the negative cable but I'll do that while I'm investigating the plugs.

E85 shouldn’t create a misfire on its own I wouldn’t think, I believe the only concern with running it long term is the extra ethanol deteriorating the fuel lines over time. That is the rubber and plastic components. Maybe @Tacoma Mike could provide more insight.

E85 shouldn't effect it any. E85 is compatible with motors made 2001 and after.

E85 will make a car throw fits.
    Check engine light etc.
    Pumps
    Seals
    Lines
    O2 sensors
    Injectors
    Can be damaged over time
Flashing check engine light = damaging situation so injectors are shut off.

I’d be confirming e85 …. Or just plain shitty gas that got pumped in.

Absolutely can - ECM is expecting octane between 'X' and 'Y' - E85 is 'Z'.
