Our garden has been doing good. My wife has come a long way from being a brown thumb. A whole bunch of big cucumbers, so zucs are growing, had a whole bunch of small potatoes. Still a lot more growing including some jalapenos for me. Bell pepper is about ready to come off.

All these car insurance companies are wanting to put a monitor beacon in your vehicle these days and incentivise it big time. I'm thinking about changing companies after just switching 6 months ago.

We did the Progressive monitoring for a short period which showed we were slow, safe drivers. It did lower the insurance a significant amount.

After 3-4 months Progressive takes them back so no long term monitoring.

I tried that too, they told me I drove too much to qualify for a discount and that I drove too much during the hours of darkness. Yeah no shit sherlock, I worked night shift. I tried everything I could think of, slow starts, soft stops, and avoiding drastic speed changes. Nothing.

Are you changing to or from a monitoring situation?

I wouldn’t want big brother riding along with me wherever I go…I’d rather pay.

They tried, I said no thanks. I see my 50 year old self driving a 71' C10 with a blown 454 and a flip phone. This technology is too much....

I used to have one with USAA when I was still in Washington. It was not supposed to tie my driving habits to my account, just get a general idea of how people in that area drove. Besides the discount on my insurance, I could track where my car was on my app. I could also set it to notify me if the car went too fast or out of an area. I could tell when and where my car was being driven when I was deployed. I kinda liked the ability to keep up with it. When I came back to TN, the program wasn't available here. If you have teenagers or let other people borrow your vehicles, they can be useful tools.

What's cheaper, that or hardwiring a burner phone with the 'find my phone' app always running and hiding it behind the dash or under a seat?

That would have been. The burner phone with the cost of air time necessary to run all the time would get really expensive!

Nowadays, you can get by with an Apple Air Tag, but that wasn't available 15 years ago.

Edit: Actually, that was cheaper, as I got a discount on my ins, and it didn't cost me anything out of my pocket.

Sounds just about like most of my projects.

Just like always: mowin' along, singin' a song (Eddie Rabbit) - suddenly the ZT starts to shudder and the smell of burning belt wafts past my nose.

Fortunately I was at the garage so I only had to push it a few (hundred) feet...

    This seems familiar...

Well, this was a new one, a bit of wood jammed in the engine pulley.

    Hmm...

    KIMG3251.jpg

Everything else seems fairly ok - for an elderly, high mileage mower at least.
