God that was my favorite time of the year when I was a kid. I grew up with my grandparents on a farm and one of my jobs was to slop the hogs before school, which meant about daybreak. I started when I was seven years old and we had three hogs. I would walk into the pen with buckets and they would root me and knock me down, which meant I had to go clean up before getting dressed for school.
I got a perverse pleasure when it came time for Grandpa to kill the hogs. I was happy. And .. bacon!

Mines been kicking since rescue in 2006. Had heart worms, but treated/recovered. Blind in one eye and has occasional back leg stability issues. Gets along with dogs and cats and sadly has seizures from loud cyclic noises like vacuum cleaners, compressors, hair dryers, etc. he’s a trooper though!

    So sorry.
We know the day we bring them home this day will come - it never gets any easier though. Look back and smile at all the good times.

Can’t like the message but love the dog. Newfs are the best. Blessed are those lucky enough to have them in their lives. RIP gentle beast.

My heart feels for you doing this was the most emotional thing I ever did.

It was much worse then losing my Mom . I still cry at times thinking about things.

Agreed. It's the worst day of having them. Thank you.

Thank you for the kind words.

She could turn dog haters into dog lovers....

We had another who died about 4 years ago which means about 15 years of having Newfs in the house. I can't remember it being so quiet.

15's a good run! I'm so sorry for your loss. Unrelated, I got my fingers crossed for beautiful weather next weekend!

Our pup was a rescue too. Same for both our cats . Seems like you all found the perfect matches for each other!

Almost a direct quote from our Vet... Good advice, thank you!

It's amazing how many people would say, "I used to have a Newfie." Like it was a one and done. I could see myself rescuing others but convincing the Mrs. might take some time.

Dogs are family and I think it all comes down to the relationship. I definitely get more emotional over my pets than I do my father... Thanks for the kind words.

    Much appreciated. Thank you.
Yeah, I think it's gonna be dusty in my house for a while.... Thank you for the kind words..

    Good Afternoon everyone :hattip:

Thanks to all again for the kind words.

During the past 15 years, my wife developed dog hair allergies. She loved the dog so much she just took meds and sucked it up. We got a new pup a few weeks ago. 1st time we ever bought a dog, usually we just went to the pound. We paid for it because it is part standard poodle, part Bernese mountain dog, so no shedding and no short lifespan that a Berne is known for.
Nothing replaces your dog. I just turned the page and started a new chapter
