Powder coater brought this over, he bought it off flea bay. Got to move the rusty piece on the right side.

My parents grew up during the Depression, growing up was all about getting by with the minimum possible.

Saving and conserving is hard wired into my DNA.

That said, one can become a prisoner of thrift -- you hold on to something because "someone might need this" for years -- until you meet that someone you are stuck with whatever it is. :ballchain:

My dad has always held onto EVERYTHING, he said it comes from growing up poor.

I used to hold onto more, I need to get rid of a lot. I hold onto it because of him and watching him hold onto it.

Time for a major clean at the shop at home.

    :amen: brother!
The last 10 years or so I did nothing but work (at the job). Just like an interest deferred loan eventually you need to pay up.

Everything here is in a state of decay as I only did the bare minimum for the 10 years.

Finally time make some (personal) progress, finally have some time. Need a big box of energy. :ballchain: .... :bananadead:

I've seen my old man accumulate because growing up every 2 years the navy shipped them somewhere else, and only paid for x weight. Anything over x came out of the sailor's pocket, which means every toy, trophy, etc got tossed.

Now getting closer to retirement, I've seen that stuff become a burden for my parents, "we had to get a bigger house for all of our stuff". Bigger house means more money+ time in upkeep, less time doing what you want.

Catch 22 I guess...love to collect, hate being burdened by it all.

My inlaws have a pretty large house for the 2 of them, my MIL doesn't throw anything away and it has a lot of stuff in it. She has a lot of stuff that was her parents, some of it needed to be tossed a long time ago.

The other day we left a plastic case for a nose plug for swimming on the table, she picked it up and told my wife she could put earrings in it for traveling, I said throw it away. She said you sure you don't want.....I said throw it away, we don't hold onto everything.

I went to an auction some years ago - big, it was in a rented industrial building.
Here was an auction tag from 1972, 1978, 1983, etc. Trucks, tractors, train stuff, tools, on and on, this guy had accumulated all his life.

I got the oddest feeling that I had a glimpse of my own future -- just hope the wife doesn't sell my stuff for what I told her I paid for it... ;)

I've been focusing here and there on getting pins, names and locations correct on Google Maps so students and visitors can actually find some of our buildings as address on campus don't really help any. I'm feeling pretty good with how that's progressed.

Unfortunately since I don't use one, I've completely ignored Apple Maps. Today I was tasked with alerting them that part of a road is permanently closed and in doing that, I realized that half of our buildings are missing or are tagged as being in the wrong place.

    :annoyed:

    Not happy.

I'm just the caretaker for this old iron, as long as I'm around it has a home.
