Think of the block as a fulcrum with both sides of the spring as levers.

the higher the block the more distance from the center line of the axle the more the spring wraps around the axle

Adjust the shock mount to get your correct length.

I shall ponder this thought for a bit...axle wrap I didn't consider it.

Manual grease guns are much cheaper !

Then when your helper drives over them it is no great loss just a mess.

Think this way have a press with dual cylinders spread 30" from center to the cylinder.

first press with a 1" block . swap out the block for 3" the amount of bend has increased .

The down ward pressure now bends the material around the block .

This is simple off the top of my head. The vendor had no idea how the truck is used it might be empty all the time or have a constant payload of 1000 pounds. The vendor would rather be safethen sorry.

Then weight and other factors come into play bending the spring below the height of the block.

The higher the block the more bend possible.

It will also increase the torque allowing axle wrap to happen more easily.

Make sure you get the reversible one. It will also assemble as an upturn from the hitch and the “T” bar is adjustable height on top. This way you can also carry across your roof/roof rack. Good for canoes and long objects. If you have the front hitch and another… those 20’+ long items are no problem!

I’d guess the correct way would either be with an internal jamb nut or by doublenutting the nipple and installing to torque. THEN install the cap. This is short, but as things get longer flex/torsional strength comes into play.

Especially when they don't give you a budget so you give them some options and... they pick the expensive one! o_O

At that place it was called "hiring a guy who had a pulse/was a farmer/used to work on cars/was a contractor" for industrial maintenance.

The "he used to be a contractor" credential was the best:

    1) "Contractor" in this case was 2 guys with a 20 year old truck with magnetic signs on the doors.
    2) He must not have been too successful if he is applying here... o_O
    3) How many houses have 3 phase electric?
    4) Even if the dude was actually competent at remodeling -- how often do you need windows & drywall installed in a factory?

    :annoyed:
