If you put it on a gravel bed in an area that has good drainage the container should last a long time.

I like the idea of combining them with a metal roof.

I’m thinking I let the container sit empty for a month or so just to see if anyone tries to break into it. The property is about 50 miles away, so we would only go over to work on the weekends.

We considered buying a shipping container for our new property to get us through with some sturdy storage space until we can afford to build a garage. We changed our minds when we talked to the town and found out that the shipping container is considered to be a temporary storage solution and that we could only have it up no more than 2 years. I am not sure if anyone would have known, complained or raised a concern if we had one and kept it longer than two years but when the prices sky rocketed on them because they were in short supply because of the pandemic we went a different route.

So you might want to check to see if there are any ordinances regarding their use before purchasing.

Good point…. I have seen some set up on other properties in the same county that look like they have been there awhile and built to stay.

My family(FIL, BIL) keep a storage container at our hunting camp. It came with the property and has been great. Of course you fill it up faster than you think you will but its a great storage solution.
