Make it as big as you can. I’ve never heard of a man complain that they’re garage is too big.

Tis true, but I'm dealing with a lack of land. A survey is definitely going to be need done as I think I have more than what is marked; probably a good 20' or so. That's going to get interesting o_O

If it’s in the budget, frame the first floor with 2x6s (actual 1.5x5.5). This will be more stout and allow more storage. For the attic, definitely consider dormers again it it’s in the budget. (My favorite is the Nantucket dormer..). Height of the ridge line plays an important role in aesthetics!! If it’s big enought, permenant stairs up there is good!

With what the market is doing around here there's no darn way. Going to be stuck here for the unforeseeable future. I guess it could be worse.

Definitely not in the budget. :pout: It's going to get rough just doing 9' studs. I really want to do a stick built, but may get a quote for a pole barn style.

This is all kinda in my head planning, but I need the room and am tired of leaving one vehicle outside 24/7. After a couple ice storms I am over that. o_O

do you recall what the blue bobcat-looking one went for?

i would've bid that one up a little higher, considering all the bearings, roller chain, and hydraulic motors in the mix, but it's a very fair price for an "assembled parts bin".

Remember a full size truck (or old car) is 20 feet or so long, extra length always comes in handy...

(did I just say that... )

Seriously, if you get a bench or toolbox at the end of the bay, working and using jacks can get tight quick.

You need 12' height to work well with a lift. ;)

the part that sucks about that configuration is that the house isn't attached to the garage.

my ideal setup would be a 2-story barndominium, with the front 1/3rd being housing area, with the living/kitchen area walking straight into the garage area, and the 2nd story bedroom/living area overlooking the garage area.

i know it'd cost an arm/leg to heat/cool the place, but if i'm ever a rich disney villain...

wait, why is there a house in the middle of the street right behind it? AI generated image? if it's real, that has to be the dumbest subdivision in all of history...

I might be able to squeeze 26' out of my lot. I have to remember for future septic replacement that will require a different drainage bed so I need to leave a certain amount.

Looking closer, I'm going to have to move where I want it pretty close to the house/garage. Honestly I can add a better patio in between so it might work better and be within code for setback rules.

Red is where I'm thinking it'll have to go, where Blue is where I originally wanted it, but probably will not be able to.

There's a house over by my brother in law that we call the "Garage Mahal" that is probably 80 feet wide and has 3 two car garage doors across the front and a single access door. That guy has his priorities squared away.

Some people say they knew exactly when their sign isn’t other was “the one”. I can’t say I remember when I knew in hindsight but I am reminded every so often, today being one of those days.
I’m upstairs installing the indoor coil of the new heat pump when my phone rings. It’s the wife, from outside, she says; “there’s two red squirrels getting it on under papa’s (my grandfathers) boat, if you shoot them I doubt they’d notice”.
    Talk about soulmates.

My Harbor Freight clamps work just fine. I have some 2 inch angle iron cut down for cauls to keep the ends flat.i cover everything in blue tape to prevent the glue from sticking

If I had a fortune cookie, it would say “Be patient, and buy lots of sandpaper”

I’ll pull the clamps in a couple of days and see what it looks like.

Already found 2 yellow jacket nests in the yard, will have to make sure they are well hydrated when it gets dark.
