They'd be internal combustion too, wouldn't they; the combustion takes place inside the casing (cylinder), and moves the projectile (piston)…

You're talking about steam traction motors?

I helped a coworker move 154 chair mats this afternoon. I knew I had 1 kind of ugly cardboard cut but I discovered what felt like a thousand others when I used some sanitizer.

I have way too much crap around here, but I will not get rid of any of it. I've saved scraps of just about everything, including a cut up pre-made slip on rocker panel I had for the S10. Has come in handy I'll say. It had some bends in it that matched exactly what I needed for my beater metal work. I'll spare you all the 50 million pics, but I made the outer curve piece today using the old scrap rocker panel piece.

As some of you know, this was all rotted away and had to be made. This was the before.

Not bad for a hammer, vice, and a welder!

    Thanks Rusty!

The more I keep digging into this thing, the more I wind up having to do. Don't know why I'm doing this, guess I'm bored and need something to do this winter

The other side is far worse and this "good" side has caused me to almost lose my sanity. So I think after the drivers rocker and shock tower repairs I'm gonna be completely nuts...

All the talk about excess stuff this morning motivated me to go out to the garage here at home and attempt to clean up a bit. I have done almost nothing out there for the last 10 years so it is a disaster.

I found stuff left from the prior owners almost 30 years ago. Also I found many mementos of the lean early years -- used spark plug wires, used brake shoes, used fan belts, old furnace parts, etc -- all saved with the idea they could be used if I was really short of cash... Dump run in my future.

    :rofl::rofl:

    (Never say it out loud.)

I freely admit I have way too much stuff.
    However...
My wife's entire family has the oddest idea about "collections", most folks collect things to display or show them, they all collect things to box them up and store them. :notsure:

The whole clan (100's it seems) is like herding cats... :frusty:

A good basement would be such a luxury.
I live in an small old country place with no attic and a damp miserable basement just big enough for an antique furnace and the well tank.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Kinda the way I was raised never throw anything away if it might be used.

Only have ex friends throw out expensive and rare parts because they have no idea what it was or tarnished silver because it was gross looking.

I have never seen a Potato barn that did not have a concrete floor in this part of the country.

    I guess it counts

Growing up the basement had a concrete floor and was warm too, we had a steam boiler for heat.

The basement here is about 12 x 12 and 5'8" high -- I'm 5'11" so that is an inconvenience...
The walls are (poorly) laid up field stone and one can slither off into crawlspaces if desired -- no thank you.

I don't even like the word crawlspace, makes me think of being stuck -- or snakes...
BTW: Snakes will kill you -- all of them!

Too much stuff in the garage? Yeah, split foyer house, wife’s car on one side then washer/dryer/water heater/toolboxes and work benches on the other. Dragging all the Christmas decorations out made me finally realize there is too much crap in there. I need to cut the big work bench in the middle and make it narrower. It’s turned into a catch all. I’ve cleaned on the 10x12 yard barn, but thought about adding 4’ on the end of it. I just hate storing anything in the yard barn because it’s super hot in it in the summer and gets cold in the winter.

Yep... we have two traction engines at our club, and a stationary that all fall on my ticket.
