Every time I see Buss' land I just say to myself, wow that looks like an incredible place. How much land do you have and how long have you been there?

20230809_121130.jpgwell...heres the alignment results after installing the bilsteins at 2.5...lol drove it 45 miles home at about 70 and it seemed to drive fine....but look at that caster! How would I remedy this?? Upper control arms?

My memory on this is Caster is the angle of suspension to hub center. Think of it like a motorcycle wheel - if the wheel is in front of the handlebars, good. If it’s behind the handlebars, not so good. I have no idea what the Tacoma’s value is, but I believe you want SOME positive camber present. Neutral or negative is bad as is excessive positive. So those might actually be acceptable.

Had a guy in an old truck out front stall earlier. He came to walk up to the door and I met him and asked what he needed. All he needed was a jump so I took him cables out and we got to talking.

The truck was a 1958 Chevy Apache in turquoise with what looked to be the original Thriftmaster 6 cylinder. I got him going and told him whenever he was ready to send it down the road come knock on my door. The truck overall looked very original, she was a driver, not a show truck. Exactly like I'd like to have it. Looked pretty close to this...

If you post that up as a new thread in the 1st gen section I'm sure some of the alignment gurus will chime in. There are some fellows (daily job guys) on the forum who are really sharp with alignment. :)

If it drives straight and feels good, you will likely be ok with those numbers. Bumps on the highway might make it pull or feel unsettled.

Yes upper control arms will help a lot. They can allow more travel, will add caster, and overall improve suspension geometry after lifting. I recommend JBA or SPC UCA's.

    Technical Phrases with Rusty:

Module engineered - when the designer of a part doesn't work on the entire project.

Witness this handy 3/8" drive square on a belt tensioner, I'm sure many readers are familiar with these - simply use a breaker bar to pull back the spring and set the belt in place.

    KIMG3252.jpg

However when installed on the machine -- the pulley blocks the square...

    KIMG3253.jpg

I spent some quality time under the ZT, swearing with tremendous sincerity.

To be fair this is probably "parts bin building" this arm is probably common to many models with a smaller pulley or access to the other side.

Just not on my ZT. :annoyed:

    It was a great day...

The ZT has been apart since the "wood in the pulley" incident. The parts haven't arrived -- the one spare I don't have in stock is the hydro drive belt - which has a chunk out of it.

I put it back together (using colorful not family friendly language), it works but makes a ting, ting noise. Thought I would try it out at the garage - promptly ate the cutter deck belt :censored:. I had one of those. Finally 3 hours late I set out to do the in town lawns.

Headed for the most important one first (fussy neighbors) and was 10 minutes on a 14 minute job (ZT is quick) and...

    download.jpg

The heavens opened - it didn't start to rain, it went from dry to dumping so much it was hard to see in 3 seconds flat. More :censored::censored::censored:

I was already  and wet so I finished the yard.

    Just stellar, part 2

    KIMG3254.jpg

Well, I sat (soaking wet & ) in the truck for about 30 minutes listening to a Jennifer Hanson album, isn't she pretty. :)

    71cAsux+YxL._UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg

Rain stopped so I started, lawn #2 isn't that critical so I mowed it wet - front looks ok.

Made it through all 5 more - ting, ting noise all the way.

Came home and promptly made a disaster of a pizza for dinner...
Tasted ok but fell apart like a casserole.

Thanks men, that  is the most enjoyable thing I have done all day...

I’ll second the SPC UCAs. They have butt loads of adjustments.
