In my life time, much like the food pyramid, the way I have been taught to do CPR has changed drastically. I was taught as a teen to do it like your first aid kit instructs. I was then taught to do it from the front with two compressions to one breath. THEN I was taught to do 15 compressions to one breath and much faster compressions. Now, I am taught to forget breaths and just compress to the song Staying Alive by the Bee Gees. Mind you, every time I am taught, I am certified by apparently some institution that has no clue what they are doing. If it is someone close to me, the 15 compression to one breath makes the most sense to me.
The food pyramid is apparently mystical as well.

I haven't had a CPR class in years. I think if it came down to me doing it on someone, something is better than nothing :D

1960-70. That was the big times for Mercurichrome and Merthiolate. I was doused regularly with the stuff. They quit making these because both contained mercury. Nowadays, we use Triple antibiotic ointment and hand sanitizer. The old stuff worked magic. The new stuff? Not so well. Now, in the body shop we used paint thinner on a rag... that worked wonders.

I can tell you that I never delivered a CPR patient to the hospital with a pulse until we switched to 30/2 ... And I can tell you that there are several people walking around still today because of AEDs and 30/2 CPR and LUCAS devices.

The first time I shocked someone, I didn't realize that his arm was laying between my legs as I was kneeling to hit the shock button.. felt that one for awhile

In all that years which I went through the CPR training, that's the feeling I have after all, and I was told "just follow the new procedures" every time I asked.
Fortunately, I didn't have to put what I was taught to the reality thus far. :D

I am not a medical professional. I am just a guy who is usually around places where people get hurt often and that's why I have been trained. I have only had to do it maybe five times and one of them was my dad. I had two survive (dad was one) and a guy who had a stroke underground in a tunnel. He had a pulse when the paramedics showed up at the bottom of the shaft. Don't know if he lived or not as I was doing CPR in the back of a buggy as we raced back to the shaft. The other three did not make it.

    Yes

I cant speak for the other branches, but the USAF still teaches 30/2 for CPR. I recently went through the course again as part of the 3 year refresher, I wanna say back in August or September of this year.

Yeah, that's the last thing I need from my house is emails saying that sh*ts broken. I can see it now, "Your upstairs toilet is dirty and needs a cleaning, also the bathtub has hair in the drain." That would be the fastest report spam and unsubscribe that my little clicking hands could muster. I try to avoid all things "smart home", last thing I need is my toaster selling my information on how crunchy I like my whole wheat without giving me a cut of the profits.

Negative. I didn't feel the need to pay an extra $300 to get alerts that a load was done.

Although I did briefly consider it because sometimes I don't hear it go off.

Funny how many smiles it gets.

Then after 30 years we did grow quite used to each other . Many things were fixed at her house and on her vehicles. Changing a light bulb maxed out her husbands mechanical skills.

When she retired she made sure to tell the new Doctor of our great relationship.
