Actually, I went to assemble the upper, and the ejection port cover spring is missing from the parts kit. Already shot an email to Midway to see if they can send me just the spring. If I'd known it was missing when I was placing my order earlier, I would have just ordered it, since it's all of of $2.

 

How's this for the third time doing vertical?

Oh yeah, gave it a quick hit with the grinder before welding, but nothing too extravagant

Stick? If so, not too bad. Looks like you coulda got more penetration on the "blue" metal, but if it was a whole lot thinner than the other then that's ok IMO. I've found 6013 reverse polarity works the best for me. The guys at work all love using the 7018, but it's hard as hell to strike and doesn't lay down as well as the 6013 IMO. And good luck restarting a 7018 (yes by "code" you're not allowed to...). I have to keep ordering the 6013 as the other guys don't use it for some reason.
