I'm trying to understand why this fitting would have holes in the bottom that water goes through?

Vacuum breaker. It's a requirement to prevent water from going back up into the supply.

Good morning shop crew, have a great Tuesday! Hot and humid is the forecast for today, heat index of 106.

 

This is a rare one, standard and metric adjustable wrench together, no more carrying 2 different wrenches.

 

I boogered this whole thing up pretty good. Never seen one before but when I turned water on for my hose, I had free flow coming through those holes. Naturally I grab the knurling with channel locks to get it to seal and the copper tube kinks instead of it spinning. Thats when I started thinking about calling the man Aunt Bee.....

 

There's normally a breakaway set screw in there so it doesn't come off. Really annoying

 

I got my co worker one time with the Metric adjustable

 

Is it lefthanded though
