higher performance tires just tend to do that..

my bfg comp-2 a/s plus' on the car do it as well. doesn't matter if the car sits for a week or a month, it's mostly the same. but daily trips tend to avoid it. but i really like the comp-2 a/s traction characteristics (not in love with the 'plus' version though-far too sticky with a violent transition), so i'm willing to deal with it.

 

About an hour with the pressure washer had the old Buick looking more presentable, the outside at least -- from a distance.



I didn't get too rambunctious near the rusty areas.



Been a few days since I drove this one.

 

what kind of brake controller? i don't know that i've ever seen one of those.


and the rust is really in some odd places on the buick...

 

Were these the same as the Chevy Nova? I had the Chevy version. The 250 six was unkillable...I tried hard as an 18 year old.

 

They had a line that tapped into the vehicle hydraulic brakes, pressure moved a variable resistor in the control unit that applied voltage to the trailer brakes.

Long before ABS was a thing.

In the early 70's these all had division specific engines as well.

Here is the under dash part of the hydraulic/electric brake control. A steel line ran from the control to the a T placed in the vehicle steel brake line. When you step on the brake the lever on the control will move from hydraulic pressure. You can also move it manually to activate the brakes just like a modern controller.



Under the hood or on the trailer tongue there would be one of these variable (by wing nut and slide ) resistors. This was wired ahead of the trailer brakes, the controller output went through the resistor first.

This was how you adjusted the brake application to the load, similar to how we do it today on a modern controller - just much less convenient.

 

We had the Olds Omega…that is until a guy in a 240z blew through a 4 way stop clipping the front passenger side and literally bent the front of the car into a 45 degree angle. I was 17 at the time…guess who got the ticket.
