Yea way too much work

If it was good looking woodwork I could possibly justify it, but it's just old smooth 324 casing and 713 base. They removed all the quarter round when they installed carpet in the 1970's so the edge of the floor is all tore up. I bought some pre-primed quarter and have been pre-painting it. Now, getting all cuts and angles right... I should have bought two tube of corking :anonymous:

my sister was/is(paternity leave) in the paint store business. according to her, the quality of the paints offered at the big chain stores is far below, where ace or the specialty local shops get the higher-grade stuff. it supposedly has everything to do with franchise agreements with the brands. no different than how a chevrolet can never be a higher end vehicle than a cadillac.

but i just tell her the color and application and let her deal with mixing and getting the 'right' grade can...

A couple years ago ACE got with Benjamin Moore and started selling their paints. When I worked at the building supply we mixed and sold BM paint, so I am partial to them. I was around when they came out with the Gennex waterborne tinting system and had to pretty much set it up. I can tell the person at ACE exactly the tint base they're gonna need and they look at me like a wizard. One lady tried handing me a job application

lol, i never considered it lying. i just considered it giving them the appropriate information to get what i needed.

my first 2 vehicles were built on the wrong side of mid-model year changes. a '94 that was in '93, but '94+ used different mechanicals, and after that was an '01 that was built in '00, that used '00 mechanicals, where major suspension/brake revisions were made in '01-- even the lug nut studs were different.

the lying happened when they started blindly following the computer and i'd ask them for a water pump for a '72 beetle. but that was only fun the first 5 minutes.

i've been in that situation a couple times. mostly car audio shops. every shop i tried incessantly to get a job at coming out of high school, that cited my 'lack of experience', i'd revisit later on once i had enough money to build what i wanted the job for. they all complain about no one wanting to work..

i've learned they walk the application offer back real quick when i tell them i need the starting pay to be $30+... i didn't get the knowledge for free, and neither will you!

Yep, just like I will never train my replacement. I will show an adequately qualified person to do it the way you want it done, but I won’t train them. I will however teach lower level techs how to use equipment or process of critical thinking. They’re either going to swim or drown. If I can’t be replaced, I can’t be promoted.

Much easier to pre-paint all this instead of trying not to get it all over the floor... :anonymous:
