I was gonna use it on the WRX as it has a top mounted filter, but I think people have been reporting it doesn't work for these cars. Oh well. I need to jack it up on all 4's anyways to change the transmission/front diff and rear diff oil. Fun fact, despite being a manual, it has a dipstick for the manual transmission! Weird, but kinda cool at the same time.

Both of our Subarus have a dipstick for the front axle, handy & smart.

What I will do is use the extractor and then pull the drain plug out and see how much is left.

None of my 4 Cherokees had the drain plug removed in years.

I just thought it was kind of cool, never seen that on a manual transmission before. Seems they want you to maintain them. Not sure when it was ever done before, but the more digging I do it seems the first owner modded the heck out of the thing. Might explain why Uncle Rodney showed up at 88K miles o_O

I really like to drive, not so encouraged about working on cars...
That said I don't mind working on the Subarus, they are really well designed for ease of service. Even jobs like the timing belts although more involved have been just work and not jobs with a lot of swearing required. :D

You haven't replaced the spark plugs on the newer FB and FA engines have you? THOSE are a total PITA

I gladly paid to have the spark plugs changed on my old 2010 Forester XT. I started to do it on my own and said; “Oh no. This isn’t going to work”.

I'm gonna struggle through it. Dealer wants $625 + tax on a spark plug change. Nope

The EJ25 4 cam is tight in the 97 Legacy, I put NGK Iridium plugs in it 10 years ago.
The 06 Forester has a 2 cam 2.5, much more room to do the plugs.

Yea the timing chain engines got really tight compared to the timing belt engines. The FB25 we had in the '19 Outback was super tight. Whenever the engine came out to get re-sealed I had them quote me a price on spark plugs. It was almost near full price so I said yea no.

I bought one off Amazon a couple years ago with the air hose option if you don't want to pump it. It's as handy as a pocket on a T-shirt!

Hey @RustyGreen want to have a mini-heart attack? Been pricing tires and narrowed it down to these.

    Ouch!

I have Continental tires on the van and am very impressed with them.

I was debating the Conti's or some General A07's as they're the same company, but the Conti's came out better for winter traction. I don't plan on driving it in snow, but you never know. It might call for rain and wind up as snow as I'm at work. I've seen it before o_O

So, tires…. That’s normal now. Most of my tires over the last few years have hit $1K.
You can get “round-n-roll” for less, but a quality tire is pricey.

Oh yea, kinda is what it is at this point. However, it's a pretty big safety item IMO.

The current Hankook's on the car are absolutely garbage. They were installed at 88K and right now at almost 96K they're over half worn and they flat spot something fierce. Had them road force balanced and they're tolerable now, but are getting pretty thin already.

I need to buy one of these, especially for my pressure washer. No drain plug on it. Actually says in the manual to turn the machine over and let it drain while upside down.
