The process you just described would be a lovely middle step in our shop. Im the fab guy and the guy who gets the ridiculous sub par mock up drawings lol. Luckily, my boss still deals with all of the $$$ aspects, estimating labor is something I have almost no skill for.

Hope it shows up for you today. :fingerscrossed:
The older I get, the more I understand and appreciate that some, if not most, of the price of some things is paying form that person's time to produce it and also for the education, training and experience of being able to do it in the first place.
No worries there. :D For every one of these annoyances, there are a bunch of other interesting tasks I get presented with.

Semi-quick example - I was asked by one of our supervisors how much square footage has been added to campus since 1990. In thinking about it for a while, I came to the conclusion that the only way I'd know what was added was to know what we HAD in 1990 to be able to subtract that from what we have now. Then reality set in that the only way I know the 1990 number was... if I started at the beginning... in 1890 and work my way through all the new construction, additions and demolitions through the years. That took me weeks to dig through 130 years and 100 buildings worth of history but I did learn a lot along the way! I should probably update that file again...
It never ceases to amaze me how as highly educated as these people are in their respective fields just how much logic escapes them.

    :D

Small world. I entered this life in Minot. Plenty of friends and family on your side of the state.

I'm due for a trip back to the motherland at some point soon.

That’s pretty shitty of them. They should have at least told you upfront what they were looking for.

Lol I used to talk to my friend on the phone while his windows were being covered by snow, -25F outside. Forget that. He ended up getting stationed in California but I still have friends there suffering the cold.

Customer came by the shop I’ve never seen before. Boss was gone. He explained a job he has that needs to be straightened out and ask me what it would cost. I’d already told him to bring it by, twice, and let us see it. He ask again, how much? I said I learned a long time ago not to price jobs sight unseen.
