I remember back about 1986-1987 era we were deer hunting at a place we used to go. A friend of ours and his son went, neither hunted, they were just there to hang out. We had a wood fired cook stove and dad and another guy always cooked. That morning for breakfast my friend got done and folded his paper plate and put it in the fire on the stove and put the lid back over it instead of putting it in the trash can. His dad ask him "did you eat all your eggs?" to which Chad replied "yes". His daddy knew, he opened the stove with plate on fire and saw eggs. He said meet me behind the wood shed.

I still remember the screams

Nope. I don't wax any body hair. Plus, it's only like 1 or 2 at a time.

I check you guys out once in a while. Thought you'd get a kick out of this one.

Had a friend call and ask if I'd be willing to use my plasma cutter to remove some bolts from a rim. I said sure, no problem. Then he shows up...

A local Tech school teaching aviation mechanics dropped their program. He was friends with instructor...freebies.

He has 4 of these (he brought 1) and wants to know if I will cut out the 18 x 1" bolts holding the split rims together. 36 ply, 225 PSI, 225mph rated with 26000lb carry capacity.

I asked him what is the material. He says Magnesium. Damn glad I asked as it looked like aluminum. Ever see a Magnesium fire. It's white hot and takes a special extinguisher to squash. It is what's used to make those fire starters for camping. The kind you scrape off some little chips and it will start a campfire. You don't want to apply a plasma arc to that stuff!

Anyway, an hour later, 3/4 drive breaker and impact, 5 foot pipe cheater, a sledge hammer, some Kroil, and a few grunts, one rim was apart.

He has the tires sold to a marina owner in Florida who told him she answers these CL adds and then nobody can ever get the rims out. She is sending a truck from FL to Indiana, that's how rare I guess it is they find someone to remove the rims. They can only use W/O rims at boat moorings. Scrap yard already told him it'll be good money for the Mag rims.

Trailer is 48" across for reference:

    Wow! That’s crazy

I guess magnesium burns like titanium? I’ve machined some titanium and burned the chips just for fun. Also saw some race car spindles burning really bright in a garage fire once, I’m assuming they were one or the other.

I had a customer years ago trying to weld a Dock plate they thought was Aluminum.

It never caught fire might have been some exotic blend but they said the welding Arc cut through the Dock Plate like a Plasma Cutter no matter how they tried to adjust things.

When I suggested a Magnesium content they looked at me like I was crazy There equipment checked out within specs I have no idea how it played out.
