My grandfather was a mason, I still have some of his memorabilia. He was more than a 50 year member. I still have no idea what it's all about.

One of our "press" rolls on our edger feed line managed to snap the 2 1/4 in shaft. Obviously been broken for awhile and just hanging on by a thread. Operator called over the radio just laughing "hah, need millwright to the edger... I broke it." 9C7E6B3E-8FC2-469A-976D-E6A201D2B54D.jpg

That shaft looks like it’s been repaired before

Entirely possible, I didn't see any signs of a repair on the other end of the break since it's flush with the pivot bearing, but I also didn't look that hard. Once again in a rush to get running again. Our mill doesn't run fridays just to give maintenance/millwrights a chance to catch up with the broken stuff over the week.

I wonder if you found anything else broken to cause that motors smoke to come out?
Like bad bearings in another part of the train, base of motor broke or possible too much initial belt tension or misalignment?

Can you make this hole pattern in the new part match the old one? Yes, shouldn’t be a problem :D

Houston, we have a problem. Got this far and smoked a carbide end mill. Nope, going to have to pass on this one.
