I always wanted an anvil. Bought one at an auction 15 years ago for $175. I’ve used it twice :anonymous:

I have a rail road anvil I made, I’ve outgrown it though, I need a larger face and I need a minimum of 100lbs. The search continues

While I don't specifically deal with the bearings you are referencing, how do you ensure that all of the old grease is removed from the bearings? Oil based greases and even synthetic based greases break down over time. The purpose of greasing is to ensure that the bearing retains its lubrication and older grease doesn't have the same properties as new grease. Yes, I understand that there is a potential to blow out a grease seal, but if the bearing is serviceable, how do you ensure that you're getting good displacement? We have some larger Timken bearings that we hand jam but we do have greaseable fittings (zerks) around the aircraft, hundreds in fact.

Here's one to make all you guys cringe. There's a position here at the mill called "pullback." And it's appropriately named as you're standing next to a moving deck of fresh cut boards, pulling the non square boards or too small pieces off onto a belt to get resawn or onto a spinning drum to go into the chipper feed. Standing at the position for pulling onto that drum, I pulled a piece back, the drum accelerated the piece past me. On its way off the deck a chunk of 2x4 came flinging off the end and right into the unprotected (save for pants) jiggly bits. Took about two minutes for the nausea to get bad enough to yak.

Have you checked with any of the local Saw Mills if your hard wood is worth enough to bother selling for lumber compared to what you can make using it for Firewood ??

Time Flies but when I had my bigger trees logged at least 15 or 20 years ago what I was paid was not to bad.

If you have room to store the logs wait till you have a whole load. Many options to explore the most money for the least work.

    Finally.

    some correct info...

if grease comes out, water and shit can go in.
U joints should be done until you can see the seal swell just a tad. DONE.

I can tell when it’s been done wrong because just a very slight pressure and it oozes
out of all 4 caps. Then it slings all over the place..

As far as bearings. Yea I’m sorry but no way am I sticking a grease gun tip into a
running machine... Weather you can or not. I like my digits.....
